On Reddit, someone noticed that older books are being given new publication dates, putting them past the cutoff for the older versions of Kindle for PC.

It could be an update and Amazon is now putting the current date for updates.

I doubt that Amazon is maliciously altering the publication date of books. I suspect that they were reissued by the publisher in conjunction with a sale that caused the change to be noticed.

That thread does not mention specific books. It is impossible to tell what is happening without concrete examples.

If you remove DRM, you can convert to another format. Probably better off getting books from someplace that uses Adobe DRM or has DRM-free books instead, if possible.

However PDF is the worst format. It's designed to be printed, or give a page size preview. Worst for copy/past or translation.

The "stronger DRM" books are still not available for download. I am not sure there is any point in me updating tool currently. I guess the usual advice "don't update or downgrade" applies.
Edit: Oh, interesting. My tool will not work, since they statically linked dll file into executable. And I think bumped up encryption version. That is... a way, I guess. So, yeah, better not update to it.
