Thanks for the logs and other information, it made me realize what the problem was. When migrating the devices to be identified by their serial numbers I forgot to also update the profiles that point to individual devices, so they were pointing at nothing. I've now added migration code to update the profiles with the correct serial number references.

For the uncompressed backup files, I'm not sure what happened there. I didn't change any code in that area, and looking at the Python documentation the uncompressed mode is actually the default, which raises the question of why it was ever compressed in the past. I've now changed it to explicitly use compression.

Looks good here. The backup file from yesterday was 491,578KB and today's backup was 35,631KB.

Just go to Preferences | Advanced | Plugins | Load Plugin from file and select the zip file.

At the connection to my Kobo, i've had a warning message about a database not recognised because of an unknown firmware detected though...

Is it safe i ignore it and continue, or should i go back to a default setting ?

Just select the driver option to Attempt to support newer firmware. This will bypass the warning message being displayed.

If at ANY point there is an incompatible f/w update for Kobo, rest assured there will be a myriad of posts here on MobileRead about that.

Hello. I noticed that upon installing the plugin, all my books got their reading progress, last read date, annotations, etc. appended to their "Comments" section. Is this necessary, or can I remove them? Is yes, is there an easy way to remove all? I couldn't find a clear answer on the help document. Thanks.

Go to Preferences > Look and feel > Book details and uncheck the columns you don't want to show up.

I didn't have the columns enabled when this happened. I've enabled them since and I like them, but I don't understand why they're also in the book metadata in the "Comments" section.

I just imported reading positions today on Calibre 8.7
The Comments part has only what I put originally when adding a book.
Under the cover Thumbnail there is

• Title
• Authors
• Formats
• Collections
• Owner
• Kobo Reading Location text/part0065.html#point(/1/4/1/12/2/1:59)
• Kobo Last Read 01 Sep 2025
• Status 43

All those on a book I'm reading have values. The actual Comments just have my original "blurb" edited when I added the ebook to Calibre on 16th Aug 2025

But yes, there is something in the configuration as I've got imported positions from long time ago adding to comments, even if it doesn't happen now. The issue: I don't remember what it is.
