Device: Kobo Clara Color
KCC: Importing stuck at 6%

This has never happened before but after I synced my Clara Colour today, I can't seem to side load any new books from Calibre properly.

The books appear in Kobo (under Finder) once I transfer via Calibre. As soon as I eject, the import screen gets stuck at 6% (sometimes 11%, 20%) and then immediately reboots. Once it reboots, none of the books are in kobo. However, if I plug the device back in, it's still there in directory (via Finder) but in Calibre, it says that the book is not in the device.

I've fixed all of the books for errors and have tried uploading each book one by one to try to root out the problematic book but ever since the update, I can't side load a single book. The same stuck import screen happens to every single book I try to side load.

Appreciate any advice or help! Thank you!

I have had this trouble with almost every Kobo device I've used, and the only thing that has solved the problem for me was to restart the device, hook it up with the USB cable to my PC, and delete any recently added PDF files. It seems I've had a few corrupted PDFs in my Calibre database, and they caused the device to stop importing (often, but not always at 6%), and then the device reboots, and the most recently added files are not in the "My Books" listing.

It has *always* been a PDF in my experience. Good luck!

While more common with PDF file, I've also seen this with ePub files.

But the problem is mostly a defective ePub or PDF.

Thank you all! My kobo decided to take matters into its own hands and factory reset itself yesterday. After starting from scratch, things seem to be back to normal again but I will definitely keep your advice in mind and be wary of any bad epubs and files going forward. Thanks again!

FIXED (in a strange way)

1. Upload your books to Kobo
2. Eject and book are not indexed
3. Select Other - Settings - Account
4. Exit from Kobo account
5. Kobo will be rebooted but not factory reset
6. Complete the registration procedure again
7. New book indexing is created
8. From now on your book will appear and the upload will work

When calibre mounts the Kobo, it look at the books in the database. So if the book does not get imported to the database, calibre will not see it on a reconnect.

Did you remove the books you previously sent to your Clara Colour and that were not imported before sending any new books? If you can still see them in Finder, your Kobo will try to import them either on the next eject or using a NickelMenu item to trigger the import process.

This makes it sounds as if the import was failing due to a corrupt database. Do you have the KoboUtilities plugin installed in calibre? If so, you can use it to backup your database and you can also use it to check and compress the database. The advantage to using the database backup is it reduces the amount of effort to get your Kobo working again with minimum data loss.

I had this happen routinely with my Aura One on the last firmware version (I believe 23171). I installed the firmware version previous to it and never had a similar problem. I have since updated to the latest firmware (23429) and haven’t had any problems so far.

Thank you! I will try this if it happens again.

You're absolutely right. I believe it was a corrupt database which triggered the factory reset. My Mac doesn't always recognize my KCC when I plug it in, so I have no choice but to plug it out/in without properly ejecting (I always make sure to properly eject when I do have the option to). I have the KoboUtilities plugin but have never tried compressing the database. I will have to check that out, thank you very much!
