I turned on my Aura Edition 2 (N236) and saw there was an update available and it suggested that it was a good idea to install it so I did.
Now it's stuck in a boot loop and I haven't been able to do a reset. I looked for a small hole to insert a paperclip but couldn't see one so I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds but that didn't seem to do anything. I tried plug it into my Linux laptop and it couldn't see the Aura. Does this mean the OS is corrupt and the SD card needs to be programmed? Thanks for any advice. Brian EDIT: I presume it was this update being installing on my Aura when the boot looping started. However it could be it's just a . Last edited by Brianrh; 08-27-2025 at 04:13 PM. |

In case this helps anyone:
I was able to trigger the update by switching to different wifi networks. My home and work didn't give the update, but as soon as I connected both devices to my friend's they did. Tried all close together on my two devices, so I'm hoping the wifi change is the secret ingredient. |

Have you found any solution? I'm in the same boat with the same device and bootloop. Factory reset doesn't work, my laptop doesn't recognise anything when I plug it in. |

Use for this the normal side-load FW update procedure. |

Thanks DrChiper it eventually worked but I had to play around a bit to get there but knowing it should work meant I carried on.

So I have turned off the wifi on my Aura to make sure it doesn't update accidently. Is it likely that Kobo will issue a new update to correct the problem with the Aura or won't they bother for a device of this age? If they do how will I know about it?
Thanks. Brian |

So actually, the newest firmware is not really recommended to install just yet.

There seems to be an issue with the N236 Aura Edition 2 and the newest firmware. So far, I haven't seen a increase in issues with any other model—measuring that by the number of requests for images of removable internal storage for various models.

Sadly I'm not able to figure out how to factory reset it despite following the few instructions on this board and Kobo's site. I believe I configured it to not show the "Powered off" screen so I can't tell what state it is in when holding the power buttons. I wonder if I can get Kobo to pay for a repair since it's their stupid firmware bricking my device. I didn't even need the new feature. |
