Ugh. I guess Google's Manifest V3 is finally kicking in. My dad calls me in a panic earlier today that Google Chrome is complaining about uBlock Origin being either deprecated or no longer supported, and he doesn't know what it is. Of course, it's the AdBlocker I installed for him, to make the web bearable.

I haven't had to deal with this crap because I run Firefox everywhere, but I guess I need to figure out what to do about his computer now. There seems to be some arcane way of keeping it enabled deep in the config settings, but I'll never be able to walk him through that over the phone. I guess I steer him towards uBlock Lite or whatever that V3 compatible version is called?

I wouldn't say that I have arthritis, but my affinity for pickle jars has decreased over the years. Normally I just poke a hole in the lid to release the vacuum first.

My wife drinks flavored protein water and the lids of the bottles have become so tight that she cannot open the bottles. I have to do it for her.

If they have plastic ridged caps, try locking pliers. I have nonexistent grip strength and it's how I get soda bottles open.

They are plastic ridged caps. I can open them. But my wife cannot.

For jar lids, I stick a butter knife between the lid and the jar to break the seal. For bottle caps, I put a rubber band around the cap to make them grippier. This also works on champagne corks.

Why add more gadgets to the junk drawer when something you’ve got on hand works just as well?

I've tried the butter knife trick (as well as the hot water trick, etc). See above re hand arthritis, though, even with a butter knife I can find it difficult to grip and can injure myself when it slips. The purpose-built gadget costs five bucks and does the job easily with no injury risk.

fwiw, a lot of those seen-on-TV gadgets that are seemingly pointless are useful for disabled people. Its believed, though possibly urban legend, that they were designed for disabled people but marketed towards the broader public and that's why you see incompetent ableds on the commercial throwing eggs on the floor or whatever.
