Old Kindle bricked after battery replacement

Hello, I've been using my Kindle 4 (model number D01100, black) for several years now and recently decided to replace its worn down battery. I've managed to do it without much issue, but alas my device refuses to start up now and shows the "Your Kindle needs repair" message. Pressing the home button causes the Kindle to display the boy sitting under a tree picture with a loading bar, but it quickly goes back to the error message. Additionally it doesn't show up as a storage device on my computer (running Windows 10) when connected. So far, I've tried:

• Charging the kindle for couple of days as the battery was supposed to come in discharged.
• Connecting the old battery back, but to no avail.
• Using Kubrick USB - I've dug up an ancient laptop which booted the live distro, but the wizard returns an error when it tries to start up the device in fastboot mode.
• Manual debricking using KindleSelectBoot tool - the links to firmware images posted in the forum are dead, but I've tried to see if I can at least force the Kindle to boot into fastboot mode. Unfortunately, even though the device in USB downloader mode is correctly recognized by my computer as a HID-compliant device, the MfgTool doesn't detect it, so no luck here

I haven't got around yet to taking it fully apart and soldering pins to see the serial output, but I don't know if I'm good enough at soldering. I'm aware that it's a very old device, but it has served me well for all these years and I don't want to just throw it out. Have you ever come across a situation like this or do you have any ideas what to try next?

I would start with opening it up and doing a good visual inspection. Use a magnifier if necessary. Possible you disturbed something.
