Mobi KF8 converted from Epub unable to open
Hello
![]() I am trying to convert .epub file into .mobi file using ebook-convert. I need new mobi version (KF8). After conversion, the mobi file opens on my computer. However, when I transfer it to my Kindle (Kindle Paperwhite 4), I get the following message: Unable to Open Item The selected item could not be opened. If you purchased this item from Amazon, delete the item and download it again from Cloud on Home. Has anyone else had this problem, and how can I get around it? Both the input and output files attached. The command I use: ebook-convert in.epub out.mobi --dont-compress --mobi-keep-original-images --mobi-file-type new Spoiler:

New mobi KF8 = azw3/KF8
Use azw3. "New mobi KF8" is for dual mobi where you don't know if it's a gen1, gen2 kindle (the only ones needing old mobi) or gen3 and later. See does current file work if renamed to azw3. |

Thank You for Your response.
You're right. azw3 opens on my kindle. But there is problem with styles. Epub has special styles for dark mode (because of eaa - european accessibility act). When I convert epub to mobi/azw3 the letters are pale and it is impossible to read the book. That was the reason why I wanted to convert it as I mentioned. So maybe is there a way to convert epub to mobi/azw3 without epub styles? And why azw3 opens on my kindle and out.mobi does not? |

Ooo, thank You Sirtel, now it looks nice!
Do you know if I am able to do it with command tool (eboook-convert) ? ebook-convert in.epub out.azw3 --filter-css color? |

Thank You both!
There is one last thing I would like to know in this matter. My epub has style with @media: @media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) {} I would like to remove it during conversion using command tool: ebook-convert. Does anyone have any knowledge on this subject? |

Thank you all.
Unfortunately, I can't use the editor. I'm programming an application and need to use a command-line tool. My solution is: ebook-convert in.epub out.mobi --mobi-file-type old --filter-css color --extra-css "body { background-color: #fff; color: #000; }" |

Old mobi is ghastly and obsolete before Amazon adopted it for the Kindle in 2017. Actually obsolete when Amazon bought Mobipocket in 2005!
Only gen1 & gen 2 Kindles need it. The azw3 was backported to older models, as old as K3. |
