Search and Replace Question

Downloaded a fanfic where there's span tags inside ems:

Code:

  <span>blah blah blah </span>
  <em>
    <span>blah</span>
  </em>
  <span>blah blah blah</span>

This results in extraneous spaces in places. How do I fix these?

are they 'naked' spans? Just remove them as the do nothing.
Diaps toolbag (Sigil, Calibre), Edit Spans and Divs (icon in Editor)
