Perhaps the only thing you cannot do (or maybe you can - I've not bothered to try it) is display that custom column that is "built from another column" as a rating column. So you would instead see the raw numeric value rather than stars.
A custom column with a numerical value is what I use in Calibre, so icons like stars or chili peppers aren't a big deal to me. I have the integers from 1-5 with a color for each one, starting with green and ending with red.

Here is a screenshot of what my custom column looks like:

You have to attach your image and not use the [img] tags. If you cannot attach due to you post count being too low, report your post and ask for help.

I did attach with the [img] tags but it appears that my post count is too low. I will report the post. Thank you!

Please stop posting disinformation based on speculation, Jon.

I can't post images uploaded to the Postimages site either.

@BookieWookie - upload images here, it's the paper clip on Advanced mode toolbar - I fixed your previous post.

It's not disinformation saying that images need to be attached. Using an [img] tag is not attaching anything. Attaching is the most reliable way to post images.

But you said more than that, not for the first time you took a WAG that the reason that an image didn't appear might be due to the OPs post count. AFAIK not such restriction exists… perhaps an Admin can confirm.

I just demonstrated it didn't appear because of the image host the OP chose to use. The Postimage site is not the only image site that MR barfs on, I've come across two or three others when fixing that same issues.

Some try to use an [img] tag with Tapatalk images and they also fail.

You made the template language flexible enough to display rating (I shouldn't be telling you that )

Code:
program:
    rating = $rating;
    text = '';
    for x in range(0,rating):
        text = text & '★'
    rof
The line highlighted in blue should be edited to fetch rating from the appropriate column

Edit: Thinking about this, I was about to suggest a rating_to_stars() function, only to discover it is already there, and it uses halfstars as well.

For me, the real advantage to attaching images to your message is that they will be there later. Many message that used [img] tags and where the site still allows third party connections now give 404 errors since the content is no longer on the remote site.

That is another excellent reason to attach images. I should have mentioned that. Thanks,

This is exciting, granted, I am not sure what most of the code means. I didn't know that there was functionality for half stars. Is that something that can be used for the built-in rating system in the default metadata screen?
