Embedded Fonts

Does anyone know of a way to configure/mod Kobo to use publisher fonts when they are embedded and use the user selected fonts when they are not specified?
I mess around with fonts for fun and they show up just fine on every other device except my Kobo. It's something to do with how it prioritises things but I'm not all too familiar with systems or how to override it.

There is no way to use publisher font automatically.

Eh? Epubs display embedded fonts just fine while using the user font for main text. Kepubs do it with a patch.

Do you use kepubs? Epubs should do it out of the box. For kepubs you need to patch your Kobo (specifically, the patch "Un-force user font family").

What firmware is your Kobo on? If the latest, look here:

I can't get the un-force user font to work. Looking at the css of the epub, the font changes are part of their own css classes and ids. I can't seem to find the right code changes to have the un-force font work.

You'll need to remove the font family from the main text or ordinary paragraphs (depending on the coding; sometimes the font is embedded on the paragraph level, sometimes not) and leave it in place for chapter headings, special sections and the like.

the only time the font-family element is used in the css is on the specific classes and ids. Otherwise it isn't mentioned at all. No other embedded fonts in the epub.

And what specific classes exactly? What are those classes used for?

I have a bunch of non-traditionally published epubs and this particular one has two main parts to the story; one is the story itself and the other is a series of journal entries. I've edited it jus so that the journal entries have a different font to differentiate the two by adding a .journal class

If you're sure the only embedded font is the one used for journal entries and it displays correctly elsewhere, then...

1) Do other patches work (so we can be sure the problem is not an error in installing the patches)?

2) There are three alternatives for the un-force user font-family patch. Personally I use the third. Try it and comment out the first and the second alternative.

I don't think I have it installed correctly... Not sure how I'm doing it wrong though.

there isn't a kobo patch with the same version so I have 4.38.21908
there isn't a newer version I'm missing, is there?

Otherwise, I've gone into the .yaml files, turned the no to yes on the patch features I want (Un-force font-family override p tags (std epubs) and Un-Force user font-family in KePubs).

I'm on MacOS so I run the kobopatch.sh

Drag the new KoboRoot.tgz from the out folder in kobopatch to the .kobo on the device...

Am I missing something?

Ah, I thought you had the Libra 2 (as visible under your devices), but you have a newer device. No, there are no patches for 4.42 and I'm not sure how many would work if you just changed the firmware number in the patches (the firmware numbers must match). Perhaps the patch doesn't work for 4.42 at all.

I only have the Sage and the Libra 2, for those the latest firmware is 4.38, so I have no idea which of the patches work for 4.42, if any.
