Initial Window Size
Whenever I re-open a book to continue reading, it opens the viewer at a particular position on the screen and a particular size. I then need to resize it to my liking, which obviously moves text around to fit.

How to I specify that I want it a particular size and position?

look in the miscellaneous section of the viewer preferences

Sorry. I'm lost. Main Calibre window has Preferences dropdown, and the only option thereunder with Miscellaneous is Advanced. So I'm not sure where to look

You missed the word 'Viewer'. Use the one INSIDE the viewer.
(this also applies for the Editor. Both allow standalone use)

Run the viewer. In the viewer "look in the miscellaneous section of the viewer preferences".

Dang. I've never seen that Settings menu. It's been hidden (possibly) since the first time I used it many years ago.
