I cannot find the "Ampersand separated text" option when adding a custom column anymore. I am trying to add a custom "authors" style column and would prefer them to be consistently formatted. Was this option removed and if so can I revert to an earlier version of Calibre that still has this option?

The option box is "Contains names" when adding a tags-like custom column. FWIW: it hasn't changed in 8-10 years.

Then I guess it must have been that long since I last wanted to add a custom names column! I was looking for it in the dropdown where it used to be. Thank you for the help, I guess I wasn't using the right search terms to find it in the help documention.

I suspect you clicked the Quick create link for People, used to be People's names.

Is this just some weird leftover (like the date/timestamp column) for Calibre id and book identifers?

{id} shows in details by default
identifiers (by type) should be grouped in the tag browser

The 'id' column the number you see in the book folders - i.e. The Book (1234). It's the glue that makes calibre work… I bring it to into the sunshine with a virtual column.



Why do I show it in the Book list.

• It provides a column for book related icons, e.g. a folder indicates the book has a 'data' folder, a diode indicates the book has 'conversion options'.
• I need it when I edit a calibre:// URL — e.g. I paste patterns (from a global snippets library) into a long text column e.g. calibre://view-book/_hex_-426f6f6b73/NNNN/PDF and then replace the NNNN in with the relevant Book #.

That box shows valid search terms. For 'identifiers', the valid search terms are 'identifier' and 'identifiers'. For calibre identifiers the valid term is 'id'. The box includes grouped search terms, which is where ids must come from.

Two libraries have a column with the same name. However, in Library A it's a composite column, while in Library B it's non-composite (for my use-case, a floating-point number). What happens if a book is moved/copied from A to B?

EDIT: I guess it doesn't work.

The best that could be done is to copy the computed value from Library A to the column in B. However, doing all the checks to see if the values, as opposed to the columns, are compatible is hard and more work that I want to do.

New PC...my understanding is I should "export" on my old PC (to a usb drive or whatever) and then install Calibre and import on the new PC.

1. Will this capture multiple libraries? I have 3 or 4 separate libraries.

2. Will this capture all plugins and their settings or will I have to reinstall plugins?

3. A folder name/path change is OK, right? Old PC location was at d:\Calibre Libraries but I do not have a d:\ on the new pc, so it will be somewhere on c:\ (haven't decided name yet).

Just ensure you install Calibre on the new PC first.

If I use the Export feature, it will include this, right?

Or I can not use the export feature and copy appdata\roaming\Calibre and my calibre library folders manually?
