People are so selfish these days! They always want to get medical attention just because they're suffering.

But seriously, there is kind of crisis in medical care. I don't know how we got here. My dentist in the US has about as many people working in the front office as in the dental suites. It didn't use to be that way.

When booking an appointment the only thing that helps are those three magic words, "I pay cash".

If it might help, there is this tool that can do the job (it depends, anyway, and though a professional would be a better choice - some old showers outlets are on concrete, too)

Probably 15/20 years ago a common person working on manufactures - as salary's class - would had spend his/hers holydays somewhere else for sure; so I guess that that could be a rilevant factor too on why anyone is at the store in August lol.

You're on a website like YT or a news site - then, as you hit Ctrl+W to dismiss the browser tab, you spot something in the 'sidebar' that makes you go "What was that". So you do a Reopen Tab and it's gone.

When your 94 year old mother falls, breaks her hip, has surgery, is struggling with low blood pressure, confusion, etc. but your older sister who lives 600 miles away can only be bothered to text a couple of times to see how mom is doing.

She is getting updates from her 2 daughters who live near the hospital, but I'm the one with the POA, talking to the doctors, planning rehab, and have clocked 30 hours at the hospital the last 3 days. But do I get a phone call? 🦗

At first I thought it was a muscle sprain. It did get better. Then it got worse so I went and saw my doctor who gave me a stronger pain med. Then it got so bad off to the emergency room. But once at the hospital, I was in the ward in about 4 hours and that included the x-rays.

You went from ER to surgery in a finite number of days?
Aren't they supposed to just let you suffer and schedule surgery after Xmas?

We're experiencing an ongoing heatwave. My car is parked outside on the driveway. Just went out to it and not only is it HOT in the car but.... the windshield has cracked; multiple cracks radiating from a point just in front of the steering wheel.

Guess that's one more thing to add to the get done list.

Somehow I don't think I can just have the cracks filled; guess it will be new windshield time.

Sounds a bit like one acquaintance of mine's family (him and three sisters).

Their mother had a severe fall and one of the sisters ended up moving from Portland, Oregon to San Diego to take care of her. This went on for about 5 years. One of her sisters and the brother both of whom had families and live in other states took turns bringing their families to visit twice a year for a couple of weeks so she had those weeks off to rest. The other sister who lived in Sacramento called a couple of time per year but never came to visit.

Fast forward to the mother's death. Before she passed, she had talked with the 3 children who visited her and an agreement was made that the sister who had taken care of their mother for the last 5 years would inherit most of her mother's estate. The other sister and brother picked a couple of pieces of jewellery and some old family photos for sentimental reasons. The third sister showed up after the mother's death wanting her share of the estate and got rather upset with the undue influence her siblings had used to cut her out of their mother's will since she was the oldest sibling and deserved the largest portion.

Boy, do I hate shipping.
If you tell me I can buy something off-the-shelf but it will take two hours of my time, I'm game.
This being public transportation (on subscription) and walking so it neither pollutes nor costs extra.

Compare that with some package that arrives some time and nails down four hours of my time and not even my choice of those four hours.

I've had few packages sent here in the last six months and twice already I've had to sign affidavits that although someone signed something I never received the package.

Well, what about package lockers? I tried Amazon once and they sent me a message, "Oh, the locker was full so we sent your package to <some random cell phone store>.

On a separate rant: I was looking for a laser place to do a trivial cutting job.
We're talking about two minutes laser time on 2 mm plexiglas.
I gave them the file, then checked back two days (and a weekend) later.
They had done nothing, they went off, came back with a quote of 60 €.
