It still sounds nice, maybe better. I'm fond of egg done that way. It's not easy to find them done well without going to a proper restaurant, but the Japanese misonikomi udon and oyakodon are two favourite dishes, sort of along these same lines with egg. Not at all related to pizza though, so I'll shut up about them.

I have never seen it. We do not have the concept of a Swedish pizza. I think I saw a pizza with meatballs on it sometime but that is very rare.
Hmm, that sounds nice though. Better than my silly suggestion anyway.

Now, it varies about, but is usually a mix of bacon, tomato, cheese, sometimes barbecue sauce, capsicum...but the defining ingredient (with a tilt of the hat to the bacon) is to have an egg or two cracked and spread over it and under the cheese ("essential" in the same way that a burger have a couple of slices of beetroot on it. Incidentally, an "Aussie burger" almost inevitably has a fried egg on it too). I'm not sure how the egg became such a defining characteristic. I do like it though (on my burger too).

I'm sure that the above isn't unique to Oz (okay, possibly the beetroot on the burgers ), and it may even be a long-standing culinary tradition for some variety if pizza. My point is only that this is generally what an "Aussie pizza" includes. Do other countries have their own pizzas? The Swedish Pizza with Surströmming on it? The English Pizza with fish and chips on it? The Indonesian Pizza with mee goreng on it? The Italian Pizza with...no, wait, skip that one.

Cheers,
Marc

I have never seen it. We do not have the concept of a Swedish pizza. I think I saw a pizza with meatballs on it sometime but that is very rare.
perhaps ironically, i've never seen a "french pizza" (one that claimed to be so, anyway) but we do have pizzas which (officially or not) cater to specific cultures, like the pizza with chorizo (i think that's the name...), and we also have "nordic pizza" which is made with white cheese instead of tomato sauce. i've never tried one of those, they always have salmon or something on them...

we also have eggs on pizza sometimes (almost anything can be improved with an egg on top : crêpes, pasta, "croque-monsieur" (hot sandwich : with an egg on it's a "croque-madame" ), and pizza of course. but those are usually home-made pizzas or in a restaurant, not delivered. presumably it's too messy.

Oddly and by coincidence, last week at the Farmers Markets, there was a new stall with wood-fired stove and ex-pat French attendant selling "French pizzas". I'll have to query the brother-out-law on it.

Marc - An egg on a pizza is a new one on me!! Is it beaten before spreading on the pizza so that it cooks under the cheese? My husband loves eggs on all kinds of things, hamburgers, Zelda's Croque Madame, etc. He would probably love it on a pizza!

Zelda - Here in the US we have something called a French Bread Pizza! You slice a loaf of French bread length-wise and kind of hollow it out, fill it with whatever kind of pizza toppings you like and toast it under the broiler to melt the cheese. My kids love it!

To all and sundry: if you ever get to Naples, Florida, there is a pizza joint there called Aurelios. They have a thinner crust pizza there that will have you singing the "Hallelujah Chorus!" They started in the Chicago area and have branched out to FL where many Chicagoans go in their retirement (I would liken it to the ivory burial ground of the elephant, but since my parents live there now, I don't think they would appreciate the analogy!!)

Yummm, Gino's East pizza -- I am very hungry now and very homesick! I wonder if they would deliver...?

We make homemade pizza every couple of weeks. My favourite topping at the minute is a mix of fresh tomatoes and sun-dried tomatoes with feta cheese. The spouse and the boy put anchovies on their half (so it won't contaminate mine).

I think the funniest pizza I ever saw was in Italy. They called it "American Pizza," and it had french fries and pineapple on it.

What about the Quiches? In a way they are very similar to pizzas, but at the same time all french. I just love my wife's cheese quiche (with Roquefort)

I received a catalog in the mail called "Tastes of Chicago". They would ship Lou Malnati's pizza anywhere in the US. Also Eli's cheesecake, and a Chicago hotdog, but I can't remember who that was from. I have never actually had Lou Manati's, but the picture looked good!

No offense, but, YUK! Okay, I kind of understand the pineapple, but French fries?

Eli's Cheesecake!! I think my cholesterol has gone up just thinking about cheesecake and pizza. I will be back in Illinois at Christmas so will get my 'fix' then.

If any of you are in Chicago this Christmas we should meet up at Gino's for pizza.

What a FABULOUS idea!! Chicago is the one of the most magically places to be for Christmas, particularly if it snows! We would go every year to see the windows at Marshall Fields!

We would take the train in to 'the city' and walk up to Marshall Fields and look at the windows. Then we would go in to see Santa who must have been on the top floor because I remember taking numerous escalators. One year I remember asking for a pogo stick! The second best part was eating under the huge Christmas tree. On the way out we would buy Frango mints to eat on the way home.

The steak (from the photo) looks like it is cut a bit thick to be considered a Philly cheesesteak... (Yes, we are a bit anal about it ) BTW if anyone wants one of the best (and lives in the continental US) you can order one... http://www.jimssteaks.com/Shipping.html

Somethings they ship have always amazed me, as I can't see them being that good unless they are 'freshly' made...

When picking my kids up from Midway Airport, we detoured to Giordano's. The kids (and I) are from Texas, but I married a Chicago boy. So when the kids got to Chicago, he insisted on Giordano's as their introduction. Both kids thought it was fantastic. I can't say that I was unhappy either!
