Convert to Fixed Layout EPUB?

I'm still pretty new to working with EPUBS and Calibre and I am trying to make an EPUB with an embedded font section that won't get overridden by my Kobo's user settings. The font is the only named font in the EPUB file but I can't seem to figure out how to make the EPUB fixed layout.

On your Kobo select font then Publishers Default. No need for fixed layout, calibre does not do fixed layout unless that is the original layout--i.e will not convert a regular epub to fixed.

Is there any way to make the publisher's embedded fonts on specific css classes override the kobo's user fonts? I've tried editing the css file and adding the !important tag on those fonts but it doesn't work.

What bernie writes. No need to use !important or fixed layout.

The user of the ereader has to select "Publisher". There is no way to force that.

Do a PDF if you really want fixed layout. Both PDF and epub3 Fixed layout need big tablets. I needed a 14.25" tablet in portrait to read the illustrated "The Last Hero" by Terry Prachett, which is epub3 fixed layout on Kobo shop.

Just to provide a user's viewpoint:

I get very upset when I can't switch to the fonts I favor (mostly bolds) because I often have a hard time reading lighter and smaller fonts.

Fortunately, I can usually remove the inbuilt font information with a Calibre conversion or edit.

But I curse the publisher and--if it is bad enough--put up a comment saying that "some people will find this text unreadable".

Personally, removing embedded fonts is one of my standard items in the Modify Epub plugin setup. One recent ebook, for some reason known only to the publisher, embedded Merriweather Light. It's a decent font but the light version is not the font I would choose for eInk.

When it comes to choosing a font, to me, if I am noticing the font, it's not the right font.

The Martian embedded Free Serif, Free Mono, & Free Sans. They are all terrible fonts for eInk and LCD. Way too light.
