I suggest displaying the column type that needs to be created in the tooltip that appears when hovering over the different text options in the 'Customize count pages' menu.

I can into Calibre only see the word-count, not the page-count.
Into the protocol after counting I see both.

What can I do?

I installed the latest update to Calibre on 10/2/2025 to version 8.12 and Count Pages is working again.

There's a new large list of public domain titles being offered by Golden Quill Classics for Kindle. Some of them are of the Complete Works of ... type which are tomes. Today, the Count Pages Plugin is coming up with 1 page for each book. I've converted all the KFX format books to mobi as the Count Pages plugin doesn't work with the new Kindle format. Anyway, I was able to count pages with no problem yesterday. Today, it's telling me all these book have 1 page.

Count Pages is failing to work for me again. I have the latest Calibre version, 8.11.1, and the plugin is updated. I link to Goodreads (plugin also up to date), then click the plugin to run, and no page numbers appear once it completes.

Goodreads changed their HTML way, so the x-path the pages are calling is inaccurate right now.

Why does anyone care to see the page numbers from some pBook version of an eBook? That's very inaccurate.

Because PAGE COUNT is a simple metric for comparison.
File size is pretty lousy because anything other than text can really distort the number.

Page NUMBERS need to go the way of the DoDo.
Computers can deal with referencing: Chapter 23, Paragraph 9, word 5
That eliminates all rendering variations

If you get a page count for a hardback book and then a different book gets a page count for a MMPB book, the page numbers can be completely different.

What would be good (IMHO) is to allow the ADE page number method to work with KF8. And for KFX, when doing an ADE page method, convert to ePub, do the page count, and delete the ePub. It's the best way to judge the size of an eBook. Once you get used to it, it will really help. It's not perfect, but no other page number method works as well for eBooks.

Using pBook page numbers doesn't help because pBooks can be of too different. Take The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. One paperback has 368 pages. Another has 336 and then 384 for yet another. another 306 pages. Amd finally one more is 287 pages. A hardcover is 192 pages. Another hardcover is 257 pages and one more is 307.

This is why ADE page numbers work best for eBooks. It helps gauge how long an eBook is using on page numbers. It's not perfect, but it's the best there is currently.
