When I said, "most interesting," I was referring to Epubor using Sats's work (not that Epubor works, though I appreciate that information, too).
I wonder if this will push Amazon to block Sats's method now that it is commercially available. Sats did say, "Now that I am putting it out, Amazon will probably fix it soon. It is easy enough." ![]() |

I imagine people will be pretty mad at epubor if that happens.

I think very few people are aware of Sats' method and even fewer know that Epubor is using it. Most Epubor users probably believe that Epubor uses their own original methods.

The thing is no one has actually figured out the new key encryption as far as I can tell. Amazon has driven people to hacks that work around this. Which may in turn lead Amazon to drop Kindle for PC altogether.

I wonder if that is why Barnes & Noble dropped the Nook for Windows app.

Also, in Epubor Ultimate v3.0.16.404, K4PC no longer launches automatically. Perhaps they changed it so it only starts when needed? I won't know without testing it. I was only using that app as a renaming tool anyway.

I gave up buying from Amazon years ago when it was no longer possible to download files to PC on amazon.de. Problem is what else is there that allows file download (not to mention de-drm)? especially in smaller markets like german speaking countries or french etc.
I am not sharing (or even selling) my ebooks but I do want to have an offline copy. The current political development will maybe lead to removal of certain books (wait and see) in stores especially US ones. Especially Amazon. I do not want to be at Amazon's mercy. |

Both Kobo and Google Play allow file downloads. I don't know what their selection is like in other languages than English, though.

They are just to stubborn to accept people wanna read the books they paid for with what ever software they want. Kinda reminds me when the record company refused to put there music in digital format, while people were really wanting that. So record company said no, so a couple of geeks said hold my beer we will do it for ya. In the end. Im lucky, at my age, with all the books I have horded, I dont think I could read 20 percent of the ones I have in my to read folder, let alone the books I have I woould love to read again. I will just keep hording more til its no longer possible to remove drm. |

B&N never did much in the way of making their DRM tough. So only having mobile apps (and Android-based Nook devices) is a way to keep your average person from getting their hands on the book files. Not many are reading on computers anyway.

Many books are commercially pirated from even paper ARC. So you don't even need to remove DRM. It only inconveniences ordinary real customers. It and most of DMCA are simply tools of big corporations to control customers, not real prevention of IP theft or stopping of commercial piracy. This is also why Amazon likes KU and companies like SaaS (Software as a Service), ideally tied to the "cloud", which is marketing for "some corporate owned server on the Internet". So also gadgets that need "cloud" subscriptions or if they are free, you and your data / usage is the product and the gadget is dead without the server. I feel like Amazon has kind of shot themselves in the foot here. They kept making their DRM tougher and tougher until it became pointless to try to figure out encryption that can immediately be changed. So people have switched to work arounds which are harder for Amazon to respond to. So far, they've just made it so the books they want to protect more aren't available for Kindle for PC, Kindle for Android, or E-ink Kindles. And if workarounds are blocked, at least it's easier to find new workarounds than it is to figure out encryption.
For now regular noDRM's DeDRM still easily works with any E-ink Kindle which can download books directly. And less easily can work with older Kindle for Android. I'm already pretty much done with Amazon, and I'm not buying commercial DRM removal. |

On recent devices, they just force firmware updates on you. Either you update, or it becomes practically a brick. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=4528169 https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=4528185 |

A friend told me that they turned to piracy because Amazon wasn't letting them get at the book files.
