I have the same problem whith my paper white 10. I used it several moth ago conected to internet, whitout problems. But today, when I try to put his whith new books (in azw3) suddenly old books change to cover Amazon. Inmediatly i put in the fly way and the change stop. I lost 7 covers whits books in AZW3. i change those in MOBI and I can see the covers again, but the interesting thing is that 7 books was old books in my library. So I change it to MOBI. (only this 7 books and the new one) AND ONLY IN THE FLY MODE.

I,try, but my english written is very bad. Like Google but worst.
Just make use of a tool like Google Translate to translate to english. Frankly, it's what I've been doing to translate your posts!

Thanks though for the effort.

I think you're referring to the SendToKindle option, correct?

(With looming overreaching U.S. censorship, I would rather corporations willing to bow to authoritarian regimes not be tracking anything of mine. I wish that were just speculation. Right now, it seems rather pertinent.)

Are there any ways to sideload the covers into the /system/thumbnails and linked to the correct sideloaded book for a PW? I do see the /system/thumbnails folder, but the cover names are obviously autogenerated. Where do they get linked?

If you have one of the MTP Kindles, that directory is not visible.

I am able to see the system folder and the system/thumbnails and all other folders on macOS using Commander One and a Kindle Paperwhite 12th gen.

But perhaps that is only because it is running firmware 5.17.1.0.4?

Paperwhite 12th gen is an MTP device and always has been. Commander One is an MTP client, so it can see what is on there.

Viewing cover thumbnails on the newer MTP Kindles works if you mark side loaded books as PDOC, as calibre cannot access the folder with cover thumbnails. Kindle will create a thumbnail for it.

If they are marked as EBOK, you might be able to get a cover image to download with correct ASIN - but if it is not also in your Kindle library bets are off. I think I tried it awhile back with non-Amazon content, and it does not work.

With pre-MTP Kindles, and the 2022 Scribe, calibre will side load and manage cover images. But it doesn't need to if they are marked as PDOC.

EBOK works just fine as long as the book is sold on Amazon and Calibre has the correct ASIN. If the book isn’t sold on Amazon then there’s no ASIN so there will be no cover to pull from Amazon’s servers. What do you mean by non-Amazon content?

I’ve seen a lot of comments about MTP lately, but so far I’ve had no issues connecting with an MTP client on my Mac. Calibre works just fine too, all my ebooks and periodicals can load onto my 12th gen PW and behave exactly like they did on my previous Kindle.

I can even see the system and cover-bug folders with the .jpg files in them.

As a quick test, I also loaded two ebooks: one marked as PDOC and one as EBOK, and both showed the covers without any problem. (For context, the EBOK was just a random blog post I downloaded as an EPUB and converted to KFX, so it’s not an actual Amazon book.)

That said, just a heads-up: my Kindle stays offline and is running firmware 5.17.1.0.4, so things might be different once it’s connected to the internet.
