reademaillater.com, Pocket, and Instapaper?

Does anyone else here use Read Email Later? It was a very handy service that allowed you to forward an email to your Pocket account, so you could read the email on your Kobo. I found it incredibly useful for long Substack newsletters, but also for actual emails.

Now that Pocket is shutting down—and Kobo is switching to Instapaper—I wonder if Read Email Later will work be adapted to work with Instapaper in the future. Does anyone have any news about this?

According to their webpage, they’re looking into alternatives, but that was in May, before Kobo announced the partnership with Instapaper.

I don’t see why they couldn’t also work with Instapaper. It really depends on the Instapaper’s public APIs, and if Instapaper charges for access. Your best bet is to camp out on their website or reach out to them for updates.

Instapaper has a version of this built in. See https://instapaper.com/save/email. It doesn't seem to support some of the advanced features of Read Email Later like adding tags directly when forwarding the email, but the basic functionality works pretty well.

Ah, that's really great to hear! Thank you for sharing. I never used the advanced features like tags, anyway. I guess I'll start forwarding things to my Instapaper now ... to read once it's available on the Kobo in a few months' time!

I've started playing with it now.

You can tag links and then download everything in the tag together as an epub. It builds the epub and then emails you a link when it is done.

Not the same as pocket, haven't decided yet if I actually like it better or if it's just different.

I'm using the action chains plugin to fix cover and tags on the resulting books.
