Proofing a short story I wrote. I'm a lousy writer, with no publishing ambition; but it amuses me to write occasionally.

This morning I reached the half way point of my current cross stitch project. It was a difficult session, where the floss wanted to do nothing but twist, tangle and knot. Normally I would just cut the session short, but I pushed through.
Now I'm going to take a week off from this project. I want to finish the Rivendell Lego set, which I started last September. If that's finished I might just work on my break/next cross stitch project, which is mostly colour blocks with lots of bright colours, so the opposite of the Mucha project. I'm now ripping a couple of cd's I got yesterday (Joe Perry and Type O Negative) and trying to get volume leveling to work on my device. |

Banging my head against the wall trying to get a book to convert properly while cursing the inventors of the fixed layout epub standard. This book should only ever have existed as a PDF.

Given how long the ePub3 standard has been available, the shame is that so few apps and devices support more of it's features. Between Thorium on my desktop and my Kobo ereaders, I have no issues with fixed layout ePubs. From the chunk of the ePub3 you posted, the ebook is indeed a fixed layout which means just like a PDF, everything is placed in a absolute position on a fixed size viewport.
In your case, the ePub3 is also forced to landscape which makes it more fun to deal with. May I ask you purchased a ePub3 version when you have no devices that will render it? Code:
<meta refines="#maintitle" property="title-type">main</meta> <meta refines="#maintitle" property="file-as">Minecraft: Guide to Combat</meta> <meta content="Adobe InDesign 17.1 CleanUpEPUBFixed.app 1.7" name="generator" /> <meta property="ibooks:specified-fonts">true</meta> <meta content="Random House Worlds" name="imprint" /> <meta property="dcterms:modified">2025-07-25T22:30:27Z</meta> <meta property="rendition:layout">pre-paginated</meta> <meta property="rendition:orientation">landscape</meta> <meta property="rendition:spread">both</meta> <meta property="ibooks:binding">false</meta> <meta content="true" name="fixed-layout" /> <meta content="landscape" name="orientation-lock" /> <meta content="true" name="region-mag" /> <meta content="2022-10-20T00:00:00Z" name="created" /> <meta content="838x1188" name="original-resolution" /> Last edited by DNSB; 07-26-2025 at 01:52 AM. |

About to start today's chores. Yesterday our cleaner wasn't able to come so my sister told me we do a quick clean, half an hour of work tops. She made a list yesterday of what she thinks needs to be done in that half an hour. This includes deep cleaning both the kitchen and bathroom, weeding the front and back yard (both the flower beds and in between the paving and then the other things as dusting and vacuuming.
It's now just after 9 am and I like to get things done as early as possible so I can relax and do whatever I want the rest of the day. She probably won't be up before noon (last Saturday she was up and showered just before 3pm). And I know she hates it when I'm relaxing whilst she is hurrying through her chores to be done at a reasonable time. But I'm not able to relax with that list on the table downstairs. So I'm just starting on the list and do the things I prefer doing and see how far I can get before she gets up. |

The motivation for purchasing the book was that my kid had gotten the physical one from the library and loved it. It was highly graphical, and really would only have made sense to publish as a PDF. Anyways, I was finally victorious in converting it! Details to appear shortly at this post once the moderators approve my final post documenting what I did. |

Trapped inside all day b/c of extreme heat (>100 F real temp) - so went on another decluttering frenzy - filled another 10 bin bags - boy, you sure accumulate a lot of stuff when you live in the same house for >20 years.
Highlight -- found my original Kindle - paid $499 for it way back when - found the charger too - might see if I can fire it up. |
