How to sync Ebook highlights with Calibre on Android and PC by Synology NAS?

I'm trying to work out how to sync all my highlights with Calibre on my Android devices and PC.

I just installed Calibre on my Synology NAS by following the steps in this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEBrk6C7wqA

I'm able to access my ebooks through Calibre Companion app, where it tells me to download them to my phone. I'm able to access Kindle settings and select the local file directory to view my ebooks and highlight them. The only problem is that it's not syncing from my NAS cause I downloaded it my ebooks to my phone.

Can I leave it on the NAS and connect to it on my Android devices and PC, and keep my highlights?

After stuffing around all day, I finally worked it out!

I tried gmail and outlook but the email won't send to Kindle.

Outlook error 'basic authorisation is disabled'.

Gmail error 'application-specific password requiried'

I used my ISP SMTP server and it's working now. I can see the HIGHTLIGHTS on my Android devices and PC

You also need to add your email address (SMTP) to 'Approved Personal Document E-mail List' under 'Personal Document Settings' or it won't work. https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/prefe...ttings/payment

Check your email for your Amazon account and approve the 'verify request'.

You can see it processing which takes about 5 minutes in total at https://www.amazon.com/sendtokindle

You can also manually add ebooks to this web address as well.

Use the Calibre Companion app or an eBook reader like Moon+ Reader Pro on Android, configured to sync annotations to the same NAS location via WebDAV or SMB. Ensure the NAS is accessible over your local network or remotely with proper credentials. This allows seamless syncing of highlights between devices while maintaining a central library.

As a recent user, maybe you should read the FAQ
https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq.html#i-am-getting-errors-with-my-calibre-library-on-a-networked-drive-nas

Keeping the working Library anywhere except a local attached drive is risky.

In addition, Calibre Companion, while once a good solution is now unmaintained and fraught with issues.
