Really simple problem which I cannot fix

I love calibre.
Previously when I opened it it would sort my thousands of books by DATE acquired order, most recent at the top, and with the display cursor showing the most recent book.

For the last 2 years it is doing its own thing - it does not sort by date at all when you open it. If I click on the button SORT it will put them in order, but I then have to click on 'reverse order' . I then have to use the slider on the right to go all the way up to the top of the books.

I have tried fiddling with templates, plugins etc and I think I have made it worse.

Is there a step by step list of instructions I could follow to fix the problem?

Many of us use the View Manager plugin for sorting and saving. The advantage is that you can save and quickly switch between several different views.

You can use the built-in Sort By tool to specify and save sort sequences, you'll need to add it to a toolbar/menu

Not a solution to your problem, but Ctrl+Home (on windows at least) will move the book list to the first book and select it, avoiding messing with the scroll bars.

Hello Lurgie,

you may use the tweak "Specify columns to sort the booklist by on startup" (Preferences > Tweak).

All I do with calibre (for years) is just click the date column and when it's sorting from newest to oldest that's me done. When I close calibre and then open it again, it's sorting by date as I want. No problem at all. The only time I've used the View Manager plugin was when there was a bug in calibre and it didn't keep the column widths correctly. I don't have View Manager installed.
