I believe it is table of contents is too large. If you load your ePub into Kindle Previewer directly you should get the same error, since that is what KFX Output is using.
And Send To Kindle will likely fail for the same reason, I think the conversion code is similar if not identical. I had it fail with an omnibus 'collected works' with something like 1800 entries in it. |

The error message is pretty specific. You have a table with more than 1800 cells. You need to split that table in two so there are less then 1800 cells in each table.

The table of contents is not a “table” in the sense meant by this error message. It is referring to an HTML table.
You may be able to locate the large table and manually split it into smaller ones using calibre’s editor, but that will require knowledge of HTML to accomplish. If you are not up to doing that I suggest converting this book to AZW3 instead of KFX. |

The most difficult bit is finding a logical spot to break a huge table into 2 or more parts A Table starts with a <table> tag and ends with </table> Look at any Calibre Generated Jacket's code for a simple use exampleIn your case, you probably want to duplicate the column headers at each split |

Trying to open the EPUB in Kindle Previewer (v3.96.0) or to convert it into KFX using the plugin yields this error message: Code:
E21018: Enhanced Mobi building failure, while parsing content in the file. Content: <img> in file: OEBPS\chapter.xhtml line: 267 I will attach the scrambled EPUB for further investigation. Last edited by dendron; 07-07-2025 at 06:07 PM. |

That book page (chapter) has an insane number of stylesheets.
I am not even sure I could do a trace to figure which one really had control. Error line #'s are when the error became obvious and can be way down the line from the opening tag (eg You are closing a nest of tags with on inside still open) |

It appears that the existence of ">" (a greater than character) in the "alt" attribute of an img element triggers a conversion failure in Amazon's kindlegen, which is used by the Kindle Previewer as part of the process of converting to KFX format. The next release of the KFX Output plugin will remove those characters from image alt text prior to conversion in order to avoid this problem. |

What is the "no body tag" error when converting? Is there a way to get this conversion to finish?
calibre, version 8.5.0 ERROR: KFX conversion failed: Cannot convert Conversion error: E19001: No BODY tag found in content file. Last edited by Drybonz; 07-08-2025 at 07:21 PM. |

If you post a scrambled version of the book you are trying to convert I will take a look at it and try to determine the cause of the failure. |

You don't need to remove anything as we cannot tell what the original was.

[Conversion Output] KFX Output
How do I get the make EBOK checkbox stay checked? Now I have to click it for every book and it’s slowing my progress. I never want PDOC because I want Goodreads integration.
I’m an idiot. I didn’t go to Preferences > Output Options. Last edited by JBaby; 07-12-2025 at 08:20 PM. |

Version 2.16.0 - 13 Jul 2025
Detect Kindle Previewer versions up to 3.96.0. Prevent conversion failure in cases where image alt text contains a greater-than character. (Fixes "E21018: Enhanced Mobi building failure, while parsing content in the file. Content: <img> in file ...") |

Thanks for this plugin jwhowell. I'm having issues updating the cover of my PDOC kfx kindle documents. Some context:
I make an exact replica kindle create, import my pdf, preserve links, and export as a kpf. I then convert to kfx with `calibre-debug -r "KFX Output" -- -p 0 "book.kpf"`. Within Calibre, I have the kfx output plugin installed with the 'Enable updating of all KFX metadata` option enabled, along with the included KFX metadata plugin enabled. However, when I send the book to the kindle with the proper cover in the calibre book metadata, the kindle shows the first page of the book as the cover. I've tried resending it, waiting a while, and playing around with the metadata within Calibre but no luck. If anyone could help me out with this I would appreciate it. Thanks. |
