I guess my point would be twofold:

1. This forum isn't the place to discuss these matters.
2. It's expecting too much for the resolution of illustrations and photos in an ebook, especially via an e-ink reader, to be super high.

But I'm being hypocritical via 1) so I'll cut it out now 😆

One thing I have noticed sometimes is that the resolution of images can be different between a UK and a US version with the US version being higher resolution.

However, there is no US eBook version of the Illustration Earthsea books.

Or sometimes it can be the other way round or vary by release date of the same format.

Amazon is the worst reseller for changing the resolution the publisher included.

And they also change color to B&W.

I have noticed that sometimes graphics in newer version sometimes get to be higher resolution.

Another thing I've noticed between US & UK version is sometimes one has a map and/or more graphics then the other.

Please use the dedicated thread for discussions of image resolutions in ebooks.

Several Mark Lawrence books are on sale today for £1 each in the UK:
Book of the Ancestor (Red Sister) (Kobo, Amazon)
A related series, Book of the Ice (The Girl and the Stars) (Kobo, Amazon)
And the first two books of the latest Library trilogy (The Book that Wouldn't Burn) (Kobo, Amazon)

Also on sale:
The Dream Hotel by Laila Lalami is £1.7 on Amazon UK (Kobo is full price but should be eligible for price matching)
Mini-review by Ian Mond
Quote:
Sara is returning home from a conference abroad when agents from the Risk Assessment Administration pull her aside at the airport. Using data from her dreams, their algorithm has determined that she is at imminent risk of harming her husband. For his safety, she must be transferred to a retention centre, and kept under observation for twenty-one days.

But as Sara arrives to be monitored alongside other dangerous dreamers, she discovers that with every deviation from the facility's strict and ever-shifting rules, their stays can be extended – and that getting home to her family is going to cost much more than just three weeks of good behaviour.

Then, one day, a new resident arrives, disrupting the order of the facility and leading Sara on a collision course with the very companies that have deprived her of her freedom.

The Dream Hotel is a gripping speculative mystery about the seductive dangers of the technologies that are supposed to make our lives easier. As terrifying as it is inventive, it explores how well we can ever truly know those around us – even with the most invasive surveillance systems in place.

Worlds of Exile and Illusion by Ursula K. Le Guin is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
Worlds of Exile and Illusion contains three novels in the Hainish Series from Ursula K. Le Guin, one of the greatest science fiction writers and many times the winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards.

Her career as a novelist was launched by the three novels contained here. These books, Rocannon's World, Planet of Exile, and City of Illusions, are set in the same universe as Le Guin's groundbreaking classic, The Left Hand of Darkness.

At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.
Currently checking my collection to see if I have these already, because I feel like I have a dozen U.K. LeGuin collections that include "the complete" this or that. If not, I'm on it.

EDIT: Nope, far as I can tell, these three aren't in any other collections.

Shadow & Claw: The First Half of the Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe is on sale for $2.99 on Kobo and Amazon:

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/sha...e-b2bdc95919c9
https://www.amazon.com/Shadow-Claw-F.../dp/B008S0E77Q

Quote:
The Book of the New Sun is unanimously acclaimed as Gene Wolfe's most remarkable work, hailed as "a masterpiece of science fantasy comparable in importance to the major works of Tolkien and Lewis" by Publishers Weekly.

Shadow & Claw brings together the first two books of the tetralogy in one volume:

The Shadow of the Torturer is the tale of young Severian, an apprentice in the Guild of Torturers on the world called Urth, exiled for committing the ultimate sin of his profession -- showing mercy toward his victim.

Ursula K. Le Guin said, "Magic stuff . . . a masterpiece . . . the best science fiction I've read in years!"

The Claw of the Conciliator continues the saga of Severian, banished from his home, as he undertakes a mythic quest to discover the awesome power of an ancient relic, and learn the truth about his hidden destiny.

"One of the most ambitious works of speculative fiction in the twentieth century." -- The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction

At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.
Truly one of the best books ever written in the Dying Earth genre.

The Last Phi Hunter by Salinee Goldenberg is £1 in the UK (Kobo, Amazon)
Thai mythology inspired fantasy. The sequel(?) releases soon.
It's also on sale in the US and elsewhere.
Quote:
Ambitious Phi Hunter and perpetual lone wolf, Ex, finds his road to glory interrupted when a heavily pregnant runaway enlists his help to escape through the ghost-infested forest…

Times are changing in the Suyoram kingdom, but Phi Hunter, Ex, is committed to keeping his trade alive. He’s on the hunt for the legendary Shar-Ala, the demon of nightmares and madness who has eluded his masters for decades.

On his quest, Ex meets the charming runaway Arinya, and the two strike a deal. For a hefty payday, Ex will escort her through the forest, protecting her unborn child from malignant spirits. It seems like a simple trade off, but it turns out there’s more than spirits chasing Arinya.

With men and monsters on their tail, and secrets that could unravel the whole kingdom, Arinya and Ex must get to the safety of the Capital before it’s too late. But as the two get closer – to their goal and each other – Ex must consider: how far will he go for the call of glory?

The Last Phi Hunter is a mythic dark fantasy, equal parts smart, exhilarating, and delightfully fun.

Luck in the Shadows (Nightrunner #1) by Lynn Flewelling is $2 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
First in a series.
Quote:
When young Alec of Kerry is taken prisoner for a crime he didn’t commit, he is certain that his life is at an end. But one thing he never expected was his cellmate. Spy, rogue, thief, and noble, Seregil of Rhiminee is many things–none of them predictable. And when he offers to take on Alec as his apprentice, things may never be the same for either of them. Soon Alec is traveling roads he never knew existed, toward a war he never suspected was brewing. Before long he and Seregil are embroiled in a sinister plot that runs deeper than either can imagine, and that may cost them far more than their lives if they fail. But fortune is as unpredictable as Alec’s new mentor, and this time there just might be…Luck in the Shadows.

The Great When by Alan Moore is £4 in the UK (Kobo, Amazon)
First in new series.
Quote:
A propulsive tour through a fantastical London, where history and myth collide, murder stalks the streets and the mundane becomes very magical indeed…

The year is 1949, the city London. Amidst the smog of the capital is Dennis Knuckleyard, a hapless eighteen-year-old employed by a second-hand bookshop. One day, on an errand to acquire books for sale, Dennis discovers a novel that simply does not exist. It is a fictitious book, a figment from another novel. Yet it is physically there in his hands. How?

Dennis has stumbled on a book from the Great When, a magical version of London beyond time and space, where reality blurs with fiction and concepts such as Crime and Poetry are incarnated as wondrous, terrible beings. But this other, magical London must remain a secret: if Dennis cannot find a way to return this book to where it belongs, he risks bizarre and disastrous repercussions, such as his body being turned inside out (or worse).

So begins a journey delving deep into the city's occult underbelly and tarrying with an eccentric cast of sorcerers, gangsters, and murderers – some from legend, some all too real, and all with plans of their own. Soon Dennis finds himself at the centre of an explosive series of events that may alter and endanger both Londons forever.

**Thrilling, lyrical and sparkling with dark humour, The Great When is the first book in a new series by Sunday Times-bestseller and icon, Alan Moore.

'A breathless time-travelling classic. Savage, humane, comic, terrifying' Iain Sinclair

'Brilliant and so powerfully imaginative' Adam Curtis

'A weird book and a complete joy' Mariana Enríquez

'A masterful step from one of our very best, uncompromising storytellers; Moore peels back the layers of London and reveals not only the history we know, but the histories that could have been, and, underneath it all, both the dark and beautiful truths about who we are as a nation.' Heather Parry
