True here in Ireland too about not reading on eink. Their app worked for a while on eink Android 8, then updated and didn't work. Phone with exact same version of Android still worked. The App developer said that they were using a later Chrome component, that the phone updated to and the eink Android didn't. The actual Chrome Browser on eink seemed the same version. I won't risk buying an eink Android ever again for specific apps like the library (which is why I bought it during "lock down" and Libraries were closed).

Just in case, if you downloaded the book in ADE and it is an EPUB, you most likely can strip the DRM. It may not be an option for you, but the DRM most likely can be stripped.

It's not nice to strip DRM from library books. You don't own them.

MobileRead is OK with stripping DRM from library books for the purpose of reading on your device, only. It's understood that the book won't be shared and that it will be deleted on completion, in a timely manner.

Does owning it make a difference? I don't own the roads but I use them. I don't own the fire department, but if I need them I will use them. ...

Thanks for the advice. I don't know how to remove the DRM, and I'm afraid Adobe Reader or the library will find out and take my card away, so I'll just leave it like this.
Relying on the user to remove it seems a bit naive to me. In my country, they'd call you a fool for removing it when you can keep it (instead of calling it piracy, they'd call it indigenous malice).

Yes, it does. You are not comparing like with like. Even so you can't repaint the road or dig it up or add signs.

Removing DRM is pretty much undetectable, but really don't bother with it if you're not that keen on it. Legality of it is indeed dubious. Then again so is advertising availability of e-books on e-readers, if they're then available only on a few specific e-readers.

Do you take the roads home and keep a copy of them? Does the fire department know that you plan to clone them and their equipment to keep at home?

To me, owning an ebook (for those values of own allowed by the license agreements forced on me) is different from borrowing an ebook.

I do not remove DRM from library books, Kindle Unlimited (KU), Kobo Plus (K+) or other loaned materials. Partly due my feelings about staying as close to legal as possible and partly due to, as Oscar Wilde put it, "I can resist anything except temptation". After all, once I have the ebook stripped of DRM and in my library, I just might want to re-read it later so who am I hurting by keeping it around. Add in any other sophistries you care to think up.

I know many do not agree with my opinion on DRM removal but that's life.

IMO, they are alike enough; they are all services that my town provides for me.

That is a service provided by the town/state. Who does the line painting where you live?
