Online screensaver extension

I had the same issue with Kuhno92's version guzzling the battery, so I made some modifications. I use this in my project 'Little Langtale', here's the link to the version that should be more battery efficient, inspired by Kuhno92's work for PW2 and up. I'm using a Kindle Oasis myself.

Hi!

After a week of trial and error I got online screensaver to work properly on my Kindle Touch. Hopefully someone else might find this useful.

I downloaded the file provided by amapetilan and made the following changes:

config.sh: changed NETWORK_TIMEOUT (line 66) to 59 seconds and the name of the screensaver file (line 45) to match the one provided by the screensaver hack;
checkschedule.sh: changed config.sh and utils.sh at lines 14 and 19 respectively with their full path;
enable.sh: fixed the typo at line 13 (sourc-->source);
utils.sh: removed lines 27-65 (I think this was the edit that made everything work. If you think you need them, use the original file and fix "wait_forr" at line 33);

I don't think these have anything to do with the extension working properly, but still:

scheduler.sh: changed the value at line 23 to match the one in config.sh at line 10;
Turned off and then on again the Kindle's automatic time setting;
Reset and reinstalled from scratch the jailbreak and the extensions just to be sure;

My goal was to integrate this with the Home Assistant Screensaver add-on and so far it works as expected.

I spent a while improving this script for the Kindle PW2 - Better consistency of hitting the schedule, and much improved power management.

I was having issues with Kuhno92's version (high power consumption) and 64bits fork (wouldn't keep schedule) - This version fixes both of those issues.

This should work on almost all supported kindles (it tries to detect which power management process to use) but I've only tested it on PW2, so add an issue if it's failing on your device.

If you try it out, let me know how you get on

avhm, I tried your solution and although the refreshing part works great on my 8th gen kindle, the resolution is kinda messed up. not sure how to solve it. any ideas? I'm attaching the image generated by my website and a picture of how it renders on my kindle. https://imgur.com/a/G47khWO Thanks!

oh.. looks like the first time I open the screen saver it's all buggy, bug if I close and open again, it works as expected. thanks!

unfortunately it's not auto updating.. I set DEFAULTINTERVAL=2 and commented out the SCHEDULE variable (I also tried SCHEDULE=00:00-24:00=2) but the screensaver doesn't update

Could you post your onlinescreensaver.log, Kindle model and config.sh as an issue in the repo?

I haven't tested this without a schedule, nor at that low a refresh interval (the script does quite a bit of waiting around for WiFi up / ping testing) so it's likely failing somewhere there.

yeah, I give up. I tested all the fixes/alternatives/versions in this thread and no amount of tinkering and updating scripts makes my KT3 wake up
