The only countermeasure that Amazon has done against Sats method is to prevent the tougher DRM books from downloading to Kindle for PC at all anymore. Now those books can only be downloaded with apps/devices where we cannot decrypt anything.

The other couple issues recently with Sats method seem to be flukes of getting an older format book in particular setups and/or circumstances. That's certainly not any countermeasure from Amazon.

And since K4PC has to be smallest share and Kindle App (Fire. Android, iOS) is the biggest share with most Kindle & Audible content consumption on phones, that's an easy decision. The eink Kindles (except maybe Scribe?) don't accept all content either, though that wasn't for DRM reasons.

Someday they might just have the App (and Fire, which is really Android with an App). Curious that the Fire tablet is a success and the Amazon phone failed. Might they try again? They have "muscled in" on Google's turf on TVs and streaming sticks.

Imagine you buy a tablet with the main goal of reading books and listening to audiobooks, then it’s no problem at all, that only Amazon apps are available. You can still browse the web, there are even additional browsers available.

Not imagine a phone, and there’s no WhatsApp, Instagram etc.

If the devices are eInk Kindle, we can remove the DRM. If it's just a Fire tablet, forget removing the DRM. However, I've never wanted any eBooks where the DRM could not be removed.

I thought:
1: That adding Playstore wasn't hard
2: That there were Amazon versions of those.
3. People buy the Fire Tablet as a Tablet, not to read books or listen to stuff, yet it's one of the most popular by volume. Of course they don't make much profit from the sales, unlike the iPad, where majority of price is profit.

Curiously I have an Android phone (as do others in the house) and we don't have WhatsApp, Instagram etc. We do have other apps.

Just my 2 cents regarding point 3. I bought a 2024 Fire tablet for 3 reasons: to have a portable Netflix/Plex/etc. viewer, for The Husband to enjoy his games on a larger-than-a-phone device, and to read PDFs and graphic novels/comics.

Yes, it's good value for that. Cheaper Android tablets of a similar spec are very hit-and-miss in terms of quality. Some Android tablets are trying to compete with iPad, so are a similar price, which means twice or three times the price of some other just as good or better Android tablet.

I picked up a used SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A7 Lite for $65 put ReadERA premium on it (and on my phone and other tablet - Pixel) it works great! and ReadERA premium keeps the bookmarks, notes, and even books synced up between devices.

No, the tougher DRM books are not available to any device or app where DeDRM works -- only latest mobile apps, Fires, and Kindle for Mac. They were available to Kindle for PC (although not to old versions where you could avoid kfx) until shortly after Sats method came out.

But those books are relatively rare. And the product page tells you what apps and devices they are available to. So they are easy to avoid if you pay attention.

Not exactly a rational post from me here. Sorry for the whining. But I am losing patience while growing a temper against the people. The people make it pay-to-play for getting knowledge. It disgusts me how the people value money more than knowledge.

DeDRM was great until it became a joke when its creator complied by reversing their program to prevent people from removing DRM found in .lcpdf files. These companies trying to stop DRM removals just make me bored at what the world has become. I want knowledge for free. But the people are not playing that game. It bores me. But it is what it is.

Rant over.
