Kobo Aura HD screen repair?

My son took his kobo to my parent’s house and when he tried to use it there’s a dead top 1” or so of the screen. I assume something got damaged, but there is no crack visible on the display. I tried reseating the ribbon cables but it didn’t make a difference. Sometimes on screen refreshes it goes black instead of white.

Does anyone know if there are replacement screens available? Or does anyone have an old kobo they want to get rid of? I kind of liked the size and there are so many models now to pick from I don’t know what’s good for an 11 year old. And I’ll need one for his sister soon enough as well.

Could I maybe tell the device to not use the top of the screen?

Looks like there is some replacement screens: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004974867419.html

I would double check the model numbers though on the off chance there are multiple varieties that are incompatible for whatever reason.

For a new one, I think the 6" Clara BW is probably fine for a kid. Yes, it's smaller but unless they're reading lots of comics I don't think it's a huge deal.

The other benefit to the newer devices (ie Clara BW, Clara Colour, Libra Colour) is officially available spare parts.

Yeah, but this is for my 11 year old. I don't want to spend a ton on a device he takes everywhere and is a little rough with. He already broke his first one.
