krisk, let me see if I've got this right:

- You've taken a job for which you are overqualified-- receiving and scheduling work orders?
- The two yahoos who are supposed to complete the work orders show little to no inclination to do so
- By job description, they out-rank you (I'm guessing this part) or at least they think they do
- They are contemptuous of you because you're new, female, etc.
- There's a backlog of work orders of at least a month

I don't think you can do anything about their performance if you aren't their supervisor. However, I do think you can offer, as politely and neutrally as possible, to help clear the backlog. Offer to your supervisor, not to them. This may accomplish several things:

- Give you some more meaningful work for a bit
- Give your supervisor a basis of comparison for how long these jobs should take
- Clear some of the backlog so you won't be so embarrassed to pick up the phone
- Line you up for possible promotion, or at least enhance your value within your workplace
- "Show them, show them all!"

The critical thing for this plan is to give the appearance that "somehow" things have gotten backlogged, without pointing fingers, and that you "only want to help out." Let your work speak for itself. Resist the temptation to be smug at how quickly you get your work done. Don't let anyone take credit for your work, but it shouldn't be necessary to call attention to it, either. Later down the road, you might suggest some kind of tracking system per work order, for "quality improvement." But it has to be done without seeming to point fingers at anyone in particular. Pointing out the failings of a co-worker is almost never productive, no matter how much it might seem that they deserve it.

right on all counts neko. I have done everything to clear the backlog save for strap on my tool belt and go out in the field (which I would DEARLY love to do!!!). the desk chains are firmly secured.

I am at my desk roaring like a mouse, trying to make my boss look brilliant and giving frick and frack enough rope to hang themselves.

for what it is worth, frack is off today, the boss scheduled 10 work orders for frick and he just finally left the building at 1030. he was messing around until then.... here frick, here's another 6 inches of rope.

Oh GREAT! It's the EU elections here "soon", so we now have Nigel Farage on the TV. How can any one space contain all that is worst of estate (realty?) agents, second hand car salesman, banking executives, politicians and cowboy contractors without somehow self imploding into singularity of pointless nothingness. I like to think I'm a relatively tolerant sort (okay, Ikea excepted), but somehow his orange tan and face just triggers a normally dormant auto-windup mode.....

Oh well, must think tolerant thoughts and the importance of free speech, tolerant thoughts and importance of free speech, tolerant thoughts and importance of free speech,

Afraid I stopped voting some time ago when I realised that all politicians are basically the same. I have a massive distrust of anybody who wants to govern me.

My own personal leats favourite is Hazel Blears - I'm sure her mother loves her and that she's great with kids etc.. but I just can't look at her without thinking 'nutter'!

Apologies in advance to non-UK members - but, if you are at all interested, just google an image of Hazel Blears and tell me she doesn't look mad!

I think there's only been two elections I've not voted in. Irregardless of whether I think too many politicians from different parties hold the same views or not, it's something that I feel is important for me to do.

And I think you are absolutely right to do that - if we live in and support a democracy we should exercise our right to vote. Bizarrely, despite absolutely believing that to be the case, I have taken the personal, selfish decision that it's just not worth my time deciding between such similar offerings.

At my Uni, all elections had RON standing as a candidate -- Re-Open Nominations. I wish the real elections had the same. If RON won, the post was left vacant and another election called.

I think the closest protest is the "spoilt ballot paper". I just wish more people viewed that as a valid means of protest than thinking people don't know how to vote...
