Change Reading Status Kobo Utilities
Hello, I’m looking for help to configure my reading status properly in Kobo Utilities. I’ve successfully programmed the plugin to upload my collections into the Kobo ereader. But my reading status programming isn’t working. I’ve tried integer, yes/no, text etc. The best I could do was get my percentage status to load as a collection (!).
I’m sure I’m doing something wrong in the configuration. I have a MacBookpro, Kobo Libra Colour, and Calibre 8.4. Any help would be appreciated. I will upload images. Thank you! Kim |

Use Load/Restore Reading Positions in the KU menu. Doens't restore automatically.

On the initial screen of the ku Config you specify the calibre columns to use, what actions to perform on device connect as well as what device these options apply to. The device can either be a specific device OR the generic *Any Device.
The devices tab in turn lets you add the currently connected device to those known by KU. If you've done a reset of your device it's possible the ID used by the currently connected device (if you're not using generic) might have changed; just head to the devices tab and verify that it shows a check mark next to your device; if not re-add the device. |

Hi Peter, Thank you for your advice. I checked and my Kobo device is check marked in the devices tab. And so far, the only column KU recognizes is the ‘Collections’ column.
I did notice that in the KU config, it shows my collections field, the percent field, but I don’t see an option for reading status field (finished/not finished). Right now my reading status column is yes/no. I have 7 books with a yes or no status as a test in this column. I’m not sure how to get KU to recognize this column. The column doesn’t show up on the profiles tab. What do you think? Thank you again. Kim Quote:

There is no option for "Reading Status" Field. You've got an option for percentage, as the Kobo database works with that. Your "Reading status" should be a calculated column based on "Percent Read", that is the column that Kobo Utilities and database talks over.

Personally, I would not recommend making collections from the % read or read status. Too many collections can cause severe problems. At this point, my only collection is Finished.
I've attached an image on my columns and the Finished column definition. I am also curious as to why you do not have any options selected on the Metadata, on device and advanced tab. Do you have Automatic metadata management selected on the Send to device setup preference? As for the severe problems with too many collections? I attempted to use an old Android tablet I still had around with a very early version of the Kobo Android app to set up a colour display device for a granddaughter. Unfortunately, something glitched and it created a collection for every date entry so >3000 entries. This did not seem to have much of an effect on the Android tablet but on my Kobo eink readers, I was looking at reboots, timeouts, error popups, stack log error logs, etc. once the Kobo servers synchronized those collections back to my Sage, Libra Colour, etc. Last edited by DNSB; 06-25-2025 at 01:59 AM. |
