How can I install dict files on InkPad EO
It's my first Pocketbook. I want to install dictionaries. I have found some dict files but I have no idea how to intall them.
Here is the directory structure on the EO: https://imgur.com/a/VlmO1RX I copied the dict file in the dict folder but nothing happened. How can I install or if already installed how can I use the dictionaries? Do I need to use third part applications to use them? Also where can I buy these dictionaries? I am interested in English and German. Thanks |

Sorry. I don't know much about Android tablets or how they use (or how to install) dictionaries for them. When I first read your post I started writing a response for a Linux-based PocketBook eReader, than I realized that wasn't what you had.
I'm guessing PocketBook support is no help here? |

I have asked PocketBook support and they replied:
The device doesn't support a dictionary .dic format. The InkPad EO device does not come with pre-installed dictionaries. However, Google Translate is available in the PB Reader app. To use it, follow these instructions: Open a book in the PB Reader app. Long tap the word to translate. Select the Google Translate icon. Wait for the device to process the translation. Important! If the Google Translate app is not installed on your device, go to the Google Play Store and install it. |

In this case, I'm guessing Deepl (another translation app available on F-Droid and Play store) should also work, should you want an alternative.

So, basically, their response was "we don't know." I'm sorry to hear that.
I'm guessing the Eo doesn't support the Google Play Store? Here's an Android app that (apparently) allows you to add .dict dictionaries on an Android tablet. I'm not sure how (or if you can) install it on the Eo, but it might be a place to start. https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com....ctionary.fork/ I'm sorry I'm not much help (if any). |

Thank you for trying. Actually there is a thread on this forum where a French user installed GoldenDict and added dict files (which I think can be downloaded from pcloud - link also on this forum) but I don't know exactly how he did it.
I am interested in English and German. |

Since the EO is running on Android, you have the choice of reading apps and dictionary apps. I don't know which dictionary apps the PB reading app is supporting but that should be covered in the manual. My choice would be to install Alreader as reading app and Foradict/Goldendict or whatever you want as dictionary app. Boot mentioned dictionary apps support Stardict dictionary format (and others too) and there are a lot of dictionaries available in Stardict format. Pocketbook dict format is probably only supported by the Pocketbook reading app but I'm not sure if this goes for Android too.
I don't know a reading app that is as versatile and configurable as AlreaderX for Android. Be sure to get the E-Ink version, not sure if this is available on Playstore though. |

AlreaderX seems to be of Russian origins. I'm not Ukrainian or something but it is my choice for now to avoid using Russian software for the time being until the situation clarifies.

In that case just install one of the mentioned dictionary apps (including dictionaries) and hope the reader app does support it.

Some often recommended apps wouldn't installed or only crashed on my Mobiscribe (the much loved KOReader), and others had terrible UI for E Ink (which was especially bad when an ad to install a TikTok app started playing and I couldn't see how to opt out and close it.) AlreaderXEink solved all my issues with my built-in reader, including having a quick menu button to rotate the screen 180 degrees which was oddly lacking in the Mobiscribe. I have it set to allow me to adjust the frontlight with a swipe on the left or right sides, and allows pop up definitions with the Foradict app I installed. It works great with all my installed fonts, and I love how customizable it is. It even lets me make the status bar at the bottom bigger and bolder so I can actually read it. It's optimized for E Ink screens, which makes a huge difference! I'm so grateful for the developer who has worked on it over the years and made it available for free. It was the only reading app that was usable on my Boyue devices years ago too. So glad there is an updated version that's even better. |
