On my Windows 11 machine it does not auto-resize. When I deleted all .ini files and opened this small MR epub, the Word column was at least three times as wide as necessary. (See attached screenshot.)

I will look into fixing that when I am back home.

Minor annoyance (windows 10)
When a book opens with a Not Well Formed dialog, it has the hourglass cursor. I think this is fairly new (the cursor). |

(for some reason, Sigil does not like the way Calibre embeds (Polish...) metadata . It is the hourglass (until I acknowledge the message) I was moaning about ![]() |

Yes, that is an undesirable consequence of the change to our own message box to allow for dialog expansion to see python function replace error messages more easily.
It is a delayed notification that just happens to launch in the middle of a potentially long load epub operation. I will look into it on my return but for me this is low priority as it is nothing other than visual (ie. the load always generates that houglass but it is typically so fast it never gets a chance to show. The wait for you to hit the ok button is what makes it visible. No real change, just timing. As soon as you hit the button the progress hourglass goes away. It looks like the Language and Misspelled columns indeed resize to fit the cell values, but not the header text. If you look at the latest screenshot that I posted, you'll see that the headers are truncated. (That's why I tried to resize them in the first place.)

Just how does calibre embed metadata? An example of what Calibre produces that Sigil doesn't like would help. And what does Sigil change?

To be clear, we do not resize to headers on purpose. Only column contents. It was redesigned that way. That will not change. I can try to make the Words column auto resize to contents as well but if you grow the dialog only the Word column will grow as the others will not. Again that was what was he redesign for small screen usage was all about.

The only error I see with epubcheck on a calibre conversion to ePub3 with an added cover file is that the cover image code is an svg wrapper and that is not added to the cover image xhtml file entry in the .opf file. |

There is no resizing cursor on the boundary between the Word and Count columns but there is between the Count and Language columns and that can be used to bite space out of the Word column. Adjustments can be made too between Language and Misspelled? columns. There is also a resizing cursor to the right of the Misspelled? column for any final adjustment. This works fine on my MacBook, Linux and W10 boxes. |

And I see no problems with how this dialog works. The only thing that might need resizing is the Word column and it will shrink or expand with the dialog and therefore the saved dialog geometry (which you fully control) determines everything. The change to ignore the headings when resizing was done on purpose in order to keep the dialog small for systems with low screen real estate. That change was made recently but I am fine with it. The non-Word columns had headings much longer than the information they contain. People were constantly resizing those column widths down to fit their screens since those headers took too much space. Not everyone has large screens. So no change here other than shrinking the initial default Spellcheck Dialog in its .ui file. That change was pushed to master. You should be able to set that dialog width once and basically forget it. |
