KUAL: Kindle Unified Application Launcher (v2.7)

Posting this for my daughter:

Using an antique Kindle DXG with 2.5.8 firmware. I’ve run the jailbreak, which seemed to work, and I’ve got it date setup courtesy of someones install package- to within the last year and a half.

What I want, is to reset the time to current day so it will stop re-dating my files. I know, it’s an outdated gadget. It also does exactly what I want, and nothing extra, so I intend to keep using it.

I’ve seen Instructions for KUAL, and for USB network hacks. I can’t figure out what to do with KUAL if I can even get it installed which I did once but then couldn’t use- and the USB network hack simply didn’t install. At all. Firmware didn’t recognize it. Nor was I able to configure the PC to do USB networking anyway.

I’m not software illiterate, but I’m not this this kind of literate, and all the how-to pages are written for people who speak this kind of software, which I don’t.

So. How do I either

A: use any of the above to set the date to within a month of accurate,

B: Use the other thing called kindle Tool that I also can’t get to do anything to make a Binary installer update with the date that my kindle can actually use,

Or C:
Who do I have to ask to make me a BIN update that will set the date to this month, preferably this week? I can pay a little – approx. $50-$100, if that makes a difference.

Please write either a very simple checklist or speak something other than this particular techspeak which I only sort of follow. Thank you.

I see post #2378 and think it might be what I want - except see tech dialiect problem, (I speak Skyrim mod sort of, but not this) - but I’ve thought that before about other things and well… I’ve beaten my head against this problem off and on for over a year. I want to be assured what I’m spending my efforts on has a good chance of working.

I just made one for you. It will set your DXG's date to June 7, 2025.

I'm really grateful. In fact, I was ecstatic. Then I tried to run it. It said update unsuccessful, error 0003. Twice.

This is the Mom - I have been trying to find info on that error and can't. So I who sort of maybe sometimes understand these things can't help either. Please help.

Does the update file you used previously still work? If you get an error with that one too now, it could be an issue with the jailbreak. Maybe try doing a factory reset and installing the jailbreak again.

If the old update file still works, I may have made a mistake in creating this new one. My apologies if that's the case.

Further update: odd error message to the contrary, I just tracked down the check date command- it's /date - and the device does say it's June 7th, 2025. Unless the error indicates some problems further down the line, I'm inclined not to break anything by fiddling further. And I know that if I reset to factory default, I will NOT be able to make it behave again- all the workarounds to tell it that it's been registered require stuff I couldn't get to behave. Like USB networking.
So it seems to have worked, but thought it failed somewhere along the way.
I'll test the previous update bin that set it to last December and see if it still works, then get back to you.

Edit- Old update files works normally, no errors at all. DX once again thinks it's last December. Package error looks like the culprit then.

I'm having trouble fixing KUAL on my Kindle 4 (non touch). I initially had the expired certificate error. Then I installed a new build (KUAL-KDK-1.0.azw2 from KUAL-v2.7.37-gfcb45b5-20250419) and the corresponding certificates (from DevCerts-20250419-KeyStore).

That brought me past some issues I had with the certificates but KUAL still doesn't start due to

Nevermind, found the answer myself. By mistake I had installed Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7.37_install.bin, which is not compatible with my device. After running Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7.37_uninstall.bin KUAL works fine

Hello, I was wandering if someone can help me to get usbnetwork to work, I wan't ssh access to my device. I have k4, which I updated from 4.1.3 to 4.1.4, then installed the jailbreak, then installed mkk, then installed usbnetwork, then put the unzipped kual kdk 1.0 file in my documents. For some reason there is nothing popping up in my books list. I tried restarting my kindle twice and reinstall mkk afterwards as another thread suggested, but it didn't work. I also accidently dropped the zipped version of kual into my kindle before, but here something appeared in my booklist but I couldn't open it, it said invalid authorization or smth. Can someone maybe help me?

Hello, I have a Kindle Keyboard 3G (B006) running software version 3.4, successfully jailbroken using Update_jailbreak_0.13.N_k3g_install.bin, MKK is also installed using Update_mkk-20141129-k3g-B006_install.bin.

I want to install Koreader, so I have to install KUAL and MRPI first and I follow the instructions from this link

My Kindle is a legacy device, I extract the file KUAL-KDK-1.0.azw2 from KUAL-v2.7.37-gfcb45b5-20250419.tar.xz and send it to the device (put it under the document folder).

However, when I tried to open it, I got the popup "The title is not signed by a registered developer.".

I tried to update the MKK with Update-mkk-20250419-k3g-B006_keystore-install.bin, but it doesn't help.

Does anyone have any idea of what I could do now?

MRPI isn't used on Kindle 3 (or Kindle 4). kindlemodding.org should do a better job of conveying that fact.

You "install" KUAL by simpy copying KUAL-KDK-1.0.azw2 file into "documents" folder.

Hi all,

I have a Kindle Touch Wi-Fi + 3G (B00F) fw 5.3.7.3 that I'm Jailbreaking for the first time.
1. I installed the Jailbreak and saw **** JAILBREAK ****
2. I tried to run KUAL and it said "This item is not signed by an authorized developer. Please contact the developer."
3. I *then* saw that I was supposed to turn off Wireless and reboot, so did both.
4. I still get the message about the unauthorized developer.

I used Kindle Jailbreak 1.16.N-r19426 (kindle-5.4-jailbreak) and KUAL-v2.7.37 downloaded fresh from NiLuJe's Snapshot thread today.

What am I missing?
