Koreader broken moved book folder, tried to reinstall; factory reset only option?
I tried downloading a fresh copy of Koreader to install and it turned out I originally installed the wrong version of Koreader (installed koreader-kindle-v2025.04.zip instead of koreader-kindlepw2-v2025.04.zip for my Kindle Voyage).
I had a swipe shortcut to pull up the notepad function but it no longer recognized where the folder or notefile was, even after setting the new moved location. Reinstalling Koreader did not fix this. I also seem to be generating errors every time I've exited Koreader during my attempts to troubleshoot and reinstall - exiting Koreader now takes me right to the Kindle menu, sometimes into the 'swipe to unlock' screen. Error involves: Code:
./luajit: frontend/device/kindle/device.lua:1818: module 'ffi/input' not found: I don't want to lose progress in the book I was taking notes on, nor do I want to redo the jailbreak, but I'm looking at a factory reset as my only option. Please advise. |

Factory reset seems like a last resort that might not even help. This shouldn't be related to the jailbreak at all; it seems like purely a koreader issue.
First off, copy the entire koreader directory that's on your kindle onto your computer as a backup, as well as whatever directory your books are in. Your books and the files tracking your progress and notes will now all be in the backup. (I don't have time right now to figure out which files those are, but make a backup and hopefully I might have time to check later. Or someone else here can - or you can too: look around in the directory, maybe do a search for some words you know your notes contain or for the title of the book to see what files refer to it.) Second, how did you reinstall? Did you first uninstall koreader completely and check that all the koreader files were wiped from the kindle, and only then install the correct version? If not, try that. And then reinstall from scratch. If you did, I'd try wiping it again and installing an older version (especially if you were previously using an old version that worked fine). If things seem to be working fine, then you should be able to copy over your progress-related files and your notes from your backup to the new version (once you've identified which files those are). You can probably also copy over your settings files so that you don't have to set up any customizations you had before from scratch. Finally, you may or may not have run into a bug. If no one here has more insights to the contrary, try submitting a possible bug report to koreader's github page with the error message you got and how to reproduce it. |

How do I uninstall it completely? There's minimal documentation on uninstalling. I went and found the right version and just installed it over that, said yes to replacing all duplicate files.
Does filing a bug report require a github account? |

Maybe, github is pretty bad that way.
But you can also post to the dedicated kindle koreader thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=209276 that koreader developers monitor. |

Just install the version of KOReader you want over the wrong version.
I've read too many people ending up with a brick when the reset a jailbroken Kindle. |

Have you tried deleting the entire koreader folder from your kindle, double checking to make sure all koreader-related files are truly gone, and then installing an older version that you know works?

There's a directory (folder) called koreader in the kindle's root directory.
First make a copy of it on your computer so you have a backup. Then delete it from the kindle. Then go into the directory called extensions in the kindle's root directory. You'll see a directory called koreader there too. Make a backup of that and then delete that too. Double-check to make both directories you deleted are gone. That's it, as far as I can tell ![]() |
