The challenge was/is I was feeling lazy; had a small shot glass in the room where I was watching Clarkson's Farm on the Chromebook; had the light turned out and the bottle of scotch right before me.

Held the shot glass over the bottom right of the keyboard and poured. (Damn typing; I keep typing shit glass). With my vision problems and low light I didn't cotton on to the fact I'd poured more than expected All I'm trying to do is I'd seen mention that a daily alcoholic drink is beneficial to raising a low HDL cholesterol level and thought it might be a nice treatment to try for a bit.

Is that how you justified the purchase of a 16-year aged Scotch to the missus? "Oh, darling, it's for my cholesterol!"

The telemarketers are using AI. God help us all.

Wouldn't have answered at all except I was waiting for a call and didn't know the number.

Over the weekend I got a robocall with the best caller ID string ever: "PROBABLE FRAUD".

But the degenerative AI thing shouldn't come as any surprise. Why wouldn't an entire "industry" based on scam and swindle not embrace the latest trends in scams and swindles?

I've been getting "Likely Fraud". Especially from calls from number that are not in my contact list and have the same area code and 3 digit prefix as my phone number. The last one I answered was about my "grandson" who landed in jail in Mexico and his "friend" was calling to see if I could send bail money. I spent about 15 minutes playing the more than half senile grandparent who couldn't figure out how to send the money and kept screwing up the instructions. Sadly, after 15 minutes they gave up on me.

My 94 year old mom has a friend who fell for this a few years ago. Fortunately she told the bank teller why she was asking for a money order/bank check. (Not sure what method she was trying to use) The bank manager explained the scam to her, so her money was safe. I think she was in her mid 80's at the time.

My daughter had a friend, whose mom sent thousands of dollars to a sweepstake scam. The police even went to her and told her it was all a scam. She kept sending money for a couple of years. She has since passed away, convinced to the end she was going to come into a fortune.

Maybe the caller is being forthright and setting the caller ID themselves?

"See, we told you it was fraud."
