Wouldn't cooking a turkey by dropping it from orbit be very energy inefficient? Isn't that the same reason that, in Star Trek, they still use vehicles to go from place to place rather than just transporting from place to place?

Was not the distance limit on using a transporter ~40,000 kilometres?

Aren't the rules for the transporter in Star Trek at bit ill-defined, with the writers changing them when it serves the plot? Wouldn't it have more of a challenge if the rule was you can transport through gases and liquids but not through solid materials?

Was the 40,000 km limit not part of the writer's guide in TOS?

Wouldn't the maximum range of a transporter differ by species, depending on what kind of technologies they used to build it?
May be possible that plasma tv uses that tech to send the images (but nobody told it)?

I wasn't meaning to be scheming; can we at least say that plasma TVs sends its content throughtout space, as it uses one of its four fundamental states of matter?

If time is just a different dimention, then does that mean that there's sideways time? What would Sideways Time be like?

Is it true that to adequately understand any n-dimensional space, you need to comprehend a n+1-dimensional space?

Wasn't there a story where, due to an accident, a man starts travelling sideways through time? Did he not notice at first that each time he woke up he was in a new timeline that was next to the previous one with extremely subtle differences from the last one?*

*As an example, his original car was a Ford, but each day it changed a little so after about a month it was a completely different model from a brand that didn't exist in his original timeline. IIRC, his wife slowly transformed, going from brunette to blonde.

Are you thinking of L Sprague de Camp's The Wheels of If?

Anyone know if the original story about travelling sidewise through time was Murray Leinster's Sidewise in Time?

My favouries sidewise in time tales are H. Beam Piper's Paratime stories and Keith Laumer's Imperium stories so anyone else have favourites?

Could be fine to ask at a Lying Cat?
Quote:
Lying Cat is The Will's sidekick. She is a large feline, similar in appearance to a Sphynx cat with pale blue-green skin and yellow eyes. Lying cat was first introduced in issue #1 (volume 1) along with The Will. Lying Cats have the ability to target lies when they are deliberate and will respond by simply saying "Lying"
Image (Saga)

*Primer (2004, movie)
*The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006, animated movie)

Wasn't the story I was referring to was an audioplay on a cassette that I borrowed from the Library? Wasn't the story humorous because there was a fellow scientist to was also moving sideways in time with him and he was getting tired of eating the same food over and over again (each time they moved sideways into the next timeline it was the same day as in the previous timeline, rather than moving on to the next day)?
