Hey all, I have a paperwhite kindle 11th gen that I have kept on airplane mode since firmware 5.14.2

I'm thinking about jailbreaking my kindle, but I'm wondering if I should update to the latest jailbreakable version for the improvements? or just directly jailbreak with Winterbreak. If update, what is the latest version to update to? It doesn't look like amazon keeps a record of the full changelogs.

5.17.1 is the last one i think. you can manually update first so you dont have to re-apply any jailbreak steps.
stay offline until the jailbreak tells you to go online and go offline again as soon as it tells you

My 11th gen came with an older firmware. I updated to version 5.17.1.0.4 and installed the jailbreak just fine.

Just beware once connected to Wi-Fi, the 11th gen may try to update to 5.18.1 firmware. If it updates before the jailbreak is in place, you'll be waiting until a working jailbreak is released.

I would do the entire jailbreak, Hotfix, KUAl, MRPI, Disabling OTA Updates, KOReader update before I attempted to update my device.

I'm assuming you were talking about the regular 11th gen and not paperwhite 11th gen

When I try the following link, it errors out.

When attempting 5.17.1.0.4.bin, it doesn't exist.

It further corroborates with the following.
"Looks like Amazon just released new firmware updates.

5.17.1.0.4 - Kindle Paperwhite 12th gen) / Kindle 11th Gen
5.17.1.0.3 - other 10th/11th gen devices"

Yes. The 11th gen Kindle referred into your Reddit link is the updated Kindle Basic (an 11th gen device released in 2024 hence Amazon showing it as Kindle (11th Generation) - 2024 Release vs the Kindle (11th Generation) - 2022 Release for the older version.

Everything went smoothly, minus the initial hiccup where I needed to factory reset before Winterbreak would open.
