Yeah, I meant the whole description, not only the first sentence or two.

There's a description (usually provided by publishers) and then there's blurbs. I consider blurbs to be one or two sentence tripe that someone with the purse-strings browbeats other authors into writing for a book (or book's author). Blurbs don't give me anything that would help me know what a book might be about.

One that's in progress is nonplussed. Originally it mean upset but enough people have been using it to mean unconcerned that that meaning is taking over.

I'm not exactly young by most definitions, I was walking when men first walked on the Moon. But I LOVE watching words change meaning. My all time favourite is "nice" Many, many people who rant and froth and wail and mourn over words changing meaning over time conveniently forget that the very first use of "nice" in English was as a pejorative indicating mental deficiency. So if anybody gives me a sermon of the "X means this and always has" type, I just smile and say "that's nice".

Just how old are you? "Gift" as a verb is attested from the 17th century.

I do it all manually because it most cases, the metadata has errors and as long as I have to manually double check it, I may as well do to manually.

I've seen descriptions that have more review crap then an actual description.

The word "poignant" in blurbs makes me want to rip my hair out from its overuse.

The word "luminous" in a blurb ensures that I will NEVER read that book.

What happened to those stickers on covers? Are they still a thing, are they completely replaced by graphical designs that are just part of covers now?

'Englightening'

If I want something enlightening, I'll turn on a light!

(Or throw my ebook reader across the room; then we'll see if the light still works!)

An 'exhilarating read that will keep you guessing until the very end!

If I want an 'exhilarating' experience, I'll use the bathroom with noisy abandon!

Saga

I only want to see saga as applied to something translated from Old Norse, and I don't want to read it then anyway.

It's also somewhat similar to 'pungent' which I don't really want to be a story to be.
