I use an older pocketbook touch hd (version U631.5.20.1527) with an sd-card. I would like to transfer data like the % read, the position where I am at in a book, ..etc to Calibre (v7.25 on windows 11 pro with the latest updates). I have created the custom plugins in Calibre, I then installed the plugin (latest version).
On the Pocketbook I created a test collection with two books. All my books are on the sd-card.
When I execute any action in the plugin, I get the message "Unknown Errror".
I ejected the pocketbook in Calibre. Shutdown Calibre, restarted it, and reconnected the pocketbook, but I still get "Unknown error".
What can I do to solve this?

Sorry, but my plugin does not have anything to do with genres, it only affects custom collections. The genres are saved inside the book file itself, as far as I know. You may try to reupload the books to your device.

Or if you actually mean collections, the plugin will not delete existing collections from the device, it can only remove books from them, but deleting collections themselves must be done manually from the device. It is on purpose, because one can want to have a collection that is not synced.

I am not exactly sure if I can make it work, but I'll try to look into this.

Can this work over OPDS with a Pocketbook app on Android? Or connecting via USB MTP to Android?

No, this plugin is only for Pocketbook devices. I don't know how to get access to the database on Android app, or if it even uses the same type of database at all. It seems to work very differently in general.

Hello,
I'm having the same problem as others with "Unknown error," even though it worked before. I ran some tests and the collection was on the e-reader. Now I still get this message.

I'm not sure yet. It may be something related to unconventional symbols in book names.
I will try to fix it when I can.

FYI I was also getting an unknown error about missing an sd card every time I tried to sync collections over to my Pocketbook Era after the very first time I tried it, but uninstalling the plugin from Calibre and installing the test version you linked on page 2 of this forum fixed the issue. You might want to consider updating the version available in Calibre with that version, if it doesn't have a workaround that would break other devices?

I'm also very curious as to how the Kobo plugin does manage to sync collections to a custom column synced to the device when first adding books to the device, whereas I did have to sync the books, eject it and let it load locally on the device, and then plug it in again and use the plugin to send the collections/other custom metadata to the device. I might poke around the github when I have time and see if I can figure out how it's doing that.

Exclamation A potential solution to 'Unknown Error'

BTW, I learned this the hard way. But try not to put quotes (') and other special symbols in your Collections since the SQL expression isn't sanitised. I think semicolons (;) would also wreak havoc on your database, though empirically using colons (:), underscores (_), and spaces ( ) have turned out fine for me.

I was getting the same Unknown Error as everyone until I removed the offending character from one of my (as of this writing) 57 Collections lol

Oh interesting, I do have either a forward- or backslash in several of my collection names, maybe they're causing me issues too. I'll have to try that and see if it stops my issues too...
