I'm a little bit sad. I'm not american nor I live in a country with Sony Stores... That just means I'll have to stay years late compared to other fellow mobilereaders. Well, Astak might be my last chance to jump in the wagon. |

I have to resist making an impulse buy since I'm just a casual reader. I enjoy the portability of the smaller screen readers currently on the market. However, if textbooks can easily be bought to be read on these larger screen readers, I'll be all over it if it's not too expensive. Textbook versus eink device, eink device wins for me. All I would need is annotation, bookmarking and highlighting. I'll wait and see what Sony will offer or if they even do come out with a larger screen eink device. It's expected they do, but maybe they won't. I also would like to see the Sony store selling epub books and I would definately be buying more books through them if they did. I guess the reason they do not sell epub books and probably will not is because to me, it appears Sony is a hardware company and not a book retailer. Sony is interested in pushing the reader and has opened it up to a wide variety of formats so that people can get content elsewhere. But I do hope they do realize there is a market for ebooks and consider selling books in epub format and continue to increase the volume of their library. Hopefully, they'll also be able to do a better job in offering competitive prices since they currently seem to be lacking in that area. |

With a research venture like the one they have undertaken, companies can easily be £10,000,000 in debt before they even get a marketable product -once they have the product, this debt needs to be paid before the prices will start coming down. | |

I would like to see Sony wait until October or November when the plastic backed screens are due for their device. They could run an add dropping their machine side by side with a kindle dx from a kitchen table to a tile floor. For my usage, glass screens in the larger sizes are too fragile. |

Sony manufactures quality products to high tolerances. I look forward to this new product line.

That would be awesome if Sony used the plastic backed screen and it was faster and had more contrast.

I would expect that Sony would keep both the 505 and the 700 in their line as they introduce one or two new models. There is a good market for both the 6" and the 9" screens as there is also a good market for reflected light and self contained light models. In marketing a higher priced model will often help sell a lower priced model. People gawk at the higher priced version and realize that they can live with the limitations imposed by the lower priced version. For me this is great news, so I can transfer much of the business document reading from the computer to a portable reader. As we have all learned over the years, letter sized PDFs are not the best thing to read on the Sony 500/505. This is exciting! |

That's easy: Sony. Apple will deliver a big Ipod Touch with a 10' screen, and it will say that it will do everythnig in this worl (except phone calls...), and it will also say it is the best e-reader in the world (because it will have color). But it will not be an e-reader: it will have a backlight screen, and will not be very diferent from your LCD. But it will be colorfull, and have a great design. It will be Apple. |

The main problem with LCDs is the backlighting, both for power and visibility reasons. They don't really have a refresh rate as such. |
