How to hide books from Library view that are already in collections?

I just reset my Voyage to get a clean slate, and side loaded a modest number of books from Calibre. It's been literally years since I've had to mess with the Home page settings, and I can't get it like it was yesterday: Collections sorting first alphabetically, followed by only the books not added to any collection. Add a book to a collection, and it disappears from the top level of the library.

Right now it's showing collections that have my books in them, but the same books then also redundantly appear in the main list after the collections.

I apparently solved this problem long ago, but neglected to leave myself a note about what permutation of settings worked for me...

Do a sort by title, then sort by collections?

If you add any of your collections to ‘Downloaded’ they will appear intermingled with your book items as you describe (with a star), and you’ll find the book both in the collection(s) its in and in the book listing, but if you change the Sort option to ‘Collection’ then I think it will be as you desire (only in the Collection). ‘Collection’ option is only enabled if you have added collections to Downloaded (awkward turn of phrase but it is Amazon’s).

Personally I don’t ‘add to downloaded’ any collections; that way it is more like Kindle app on iOS (except COLLECTIONS appears as Sort option rather than Filter option). I don’t like to see them intermingled. I sort of understand why they do what they do on Kindle but I think it is too confusing. As you may agree.

OK thanks for the tips. It seems to be working correctly now.

Turns out that I had to set the filter to Books, with sort set to Collections, to get what I want: all the books added to collections disappear, leaving only the solo books.

The Books filter logically left only the books, but inexplicably "sorting" by Collection doesn't sort by anything, but instead filters out all the categorized books, and the collections appear in their place. Followed by orphan books.

I have no idea why the sort option does that, but it works fine now!

Filter: Books
Sort: Collections

The Collection names are sorted alphabetically, then the 'orphaned' ebooks (those not in any collection) are left untouched.

This is why some people like to give a name to their 'Reading' collection something that would cause it to be first in the collection listing. This is especially useful if (like me) you have multiple books you are engaged in reading and don't want to go through any number of screens to get to your 'Reading' collection.

How do I do what OP is asking with the newest firmware? I am using a ColorSoft with 5.18.2. I cannot manage to get it to hide books that are in a collection but show all books that are not in a collection. For me it either shows all collections and books, including the books already in a collection or it only shows collections.

That is sad. I upgraded from a Voyage and that could display it like that. I hope they add that option.

To see books that are not in a collection, in the library view choose the three-line icon on the right and select Collections instead of All. At the end of the list of collections you will see one named Uncollected containing all of the books that are not included in any other collection.
