Slow Start up for Calibre

Calibre takes a long time to start.

If I click on it causing it as it attempts to open then it will not respond and when I cancel it, it then closes.

When I try to open it a second time it starts straight away.

(I have 1200 book entries).

Should i uninstall and then use the back up I have made? Is there a simpler solution?

Which OS?

Additional drives (SATA and USB) might need to be 'woken' up - see ==>> Stop Hard Drive from going to Sleep in Windows 11/10

Start Calibre without plugins (there's an option in the settings for that) and see if startup time improves. If yes, one of the plugins is the problem.

Try running calibre in safe mode. It could be something you run on start up such as your AV. But if it's the Microsoft AV, that should not be the problem.

HD usually give warning signs before the outright fail. OTOH Flash just belly up when they quit. For many uses, HD is fast enough. My Library is on a HD because most operations are done on a per book basis. Calibre and TMP is on the SSD as it does lots of activity

Do you use the Autoadd feature? If so, and other suggestions don't fix, try clearing the setting:

Did you try safe mode? If not, you need to try it so you can find out if it's something you run at start that's the issue.

This is what seems to have fixed the problem:

  1. Windows Button + R and then enter %appdata%

  2. Navigate to the folder AppData\Roaming\Calibre

  3. Delete the file gui.json
