You can fix it by running the uninstall.bin file from the KUAL archive. All you need to install KUAL on K4 is to copy the KUAL-KDK-1.0.azw2 file to your documents folder. The .bin installer shouldn't be used. |

@Malc Those guides are pretending that nothing older than PW2 exist
![]() As a result you get K3 and K4 owners trying to use WinterBreak and install KUAL booklet and MRPI ![]() |

Time to RTMF on how to add books to the kindle. It never really got used that much given the limitations (need the light on to read it which annoyed the other half). I mainly used it to have 100+ I.T. Procedures in pdf at my fingertips when I was an IT Tech back around 2011... |

USBNetwork isn't installing on my just-jailbroken PW6. I put Update_usbnet_0.22.N_install_pw2_and_up.bin in mrpackages, disconnected USB, and selected "Install MR Packages" in KUAL. A big package icon flashes on the screen for a fraction of a second and then the screen goes white for 15-20 seconds. Something is happening, obviously, but it doesn't install. No USBNetwork in KUAL, no extensions/usbnet folder, ;un doesn't do anything. I'd appreciate any thoughts.

@OstrichEgg Expected result since your using an installer bin that:
1) doesn't target your device so MRPI will refuse to install it. (check the log file located at /extensions/MRInstaller/log(s)/mrinstaller.log to confirmed that's the case) 2) hasn't been updated / recompiled to for 'armhf' so won't work on firmware 5.16.3 or newer Your device and firmware combo needs to use "USBNetLite" (that's USBNetwork hack but compiled for armhf instead of armel/armebi). https://github.com/notmarek/kindle-usbnetlite/releases And maybe / probably the usbnetlite installer also doesn't target your device like it was already confirmed that it doesn't install on some Kindle ColorSoft devices. Hello all, I use my kindle as a web display through alpine Linux, I recently restarted my kindle and I am left with the same error as most when opening KUAL that, "The permissions to open this item have expired." Please can somebody help guide me into fixing this? I am not great at these things and would really not like to jailbreak the whole device again. I have a kindle PW2 on version 5.12.2.2. Thank you.

Hi, I'm unable to open KUAL with my PW1 with 5.6.1.1 firmware, started with the "The permissions to open this item have expired. Please contact the developer." issue, then I:
- Downloaded the new KUAL-v2.7.37-gfcb45b5-20250419 and replaced the KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2 with the new one; - Downloaded the DevCerts-20250419-KeyStore.zip, and copied the Update_mkk-20250419-k5-ALL_keystore-install.bin to the kindle's root, but it does not show any new update at the "Update Your Kindle" menu (gray text button); - Restarted the kindle and the file was removed, but when I tried to open KUAL, it showed the "This item is not signed by an authorised developer. Please contact the developer” - Tried the file again in the root and in the mrpackages folder now searching for ;log mrpi but the problem persists and the file remains in the kindle. I'm aware of the chaitanyaI solution, but I'm already with the 5.6.1.1 firmware, so I don't know what is the best thing to do to fix KUAL ![]() |

Just an idea - no clue if it works, but you could try: downgrade to 5.4.4 (just download the package from Amazon and hit update from Kindle's own software, it should work - I did it myself a while ago). After that redo all the steps you already did and only after that update again to 5.6.1

Downgrading to 5.4.4 first, then following chaitanyal's method should work. I bit the bullet after possumbly_human verified they had no issues with chaitanyal's method and everything seems to be working fine on my PW1. How to downgrade: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=264432 Firmware link: https://s3.amazonaws.com/G7G_Firmwar...ndle_5.4.4.bin Thanks to NiLuJE, all the other developers, chaitanyal, and possumbly_human! You're all amazing. |

Hello everyone, I just received a Kindle Touch (K5) as a gift, and I’m really eager to explore it by jailbreaking (JB) and installing KOReader like this
However, I’m facing a small issue with KUAL. My device is in 5.3.7.3 Firmware I downloaded the K5 JailBreak (5.0.x - 5.4.4.2) | kindle-jailbreak-1.16.N-r19426.tar.xz and successfully jailbroken my device as instructed. I copied the file KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2 into the Documents folder. When I opened KUAL on my device, I got the error message: ‘This item is not signed by an authorized developer.’ Can anyone help me with this? |
