Amazon has removed Download & Transfer option - Page 67

I think I'm going to leave things as they are.
It just means I won't be able to add any free books to my kindle any more.
Oh, well.

Edit: To get round it I've downloaded the Kindle app onto my mobile.
It's not perfect but at least I'll get to read the books.

I have just read all 67 pages of this discussion! Whew! Having just ordered an Amazon First Read, I cannot download it or read in on Kindle For PC Ver 2.4.0. The app wants me to upgrade in order to read it and I also cannot download it for processing in Calibre. Google books and Kobe are going to my new best friends. What a shame!!! I'm not syncing my Kindle and letting Amazon destroy my collections. Maybe someone a whole lot smarter than me can find a solution to this Charlie Foxtrot.

nope. the only option for brand new books (published on or after April 22) is to download them to an e-ink kindle.

well...technically the kindle for android + bluestacks method will work for 19 more days. (I think. I've never messed with this method.)

I'm having trouble with KFX all of a sudden and only on some books.
To download to my kindle library then onto Calibre, I first download in the kindle app on my PC (Windows), then usually convert to AZW and send to device via a USB cable.
Since Amazon's edict that I can no longer download direct from Manage Content and Devices this is the method I've been using.

Today, some of these books are appearing in my Calibre library as KFX-ZIP and from what I understand this means that Calibre has been unable to remove the DRM?
I have checked KFX Input and DeDRM plugins and both are the latest versions.
Checking my app on my PC, which Kindle said I had to update in order to download a book, is version 2.7

Is there a workaround?
I don't have my kindle connected to the internet to prevent their interference with the books I already have, some free and some sale priced books.

One of the two books with this issue is a purchased, the other a free book.

In addition, I can choose any book in my Amazon Content and it now downloads as KFX-ZIP. This is just from today although it's after midnight so I have no idea if 6th and 7th May has anything to do with the issue.

Any help would be so appreciated.

You cannot remove the DRM with the Kindle for PC 2.7. The latest version that works is 2.40 and it won't download any books published April 23 or later. For those books, the only working methods are either a physical eink Kindle (a Fire won't work) or the Bluestacks/Kindle for Android method (the latter will stop working in a couple of weeks).

Thanks for letting me know. Both books are May publication. I have rolled back to version 2.4 Kindle app, but as you pointed out that doesn't help when the book is published after April 23rd. No idea to even think of how to get around that, so makes buying books from Amazon the worst place to do so.

And it seems older Kindles (we don't know the cutoff yet) will also eventually no longer be able to download eBooks.

Thanks. I just got caught up on that thread. It will make me very sad if I can no longer download books on my older Kindles--I still use them occasionally.

Wasn't it said that the cutoff will happen toward the end of the year, not now? Of course, no one knows for sure.

What was said in that thread was that if you use an Android app, you have to update it to the latest version to continue downloading and reading books. Not that you can't download books, just that you have to use the latest version.

Someone suggested that might happen with older kindles - i.e. that you have to update the software to the latest version to download books. NOT that those kindles will simply stop being able to download books. This is already somewhat the case - I bought an old K4 and couldn't connect to wi-fi (and thus couldn't download books) until I updated the software.

I think you're freaking people out saying that Amazon will "cut off" older models.
