Jon, if even 1 link in that newsletter still works, that make yours "none" incorrect. Perhaps using words such as "most" might have been a better choice though it may not fit your absolutist posting style.

OK, so a while back I smugly posted to say I could download from Kindle for PC 1.39 & convert to MOBI in Calibre. I should have shut up.
Specs—my Kindle is a KT4 running 5.13.6, permanently in airplane mode and able to read MOBI only. Kindle for PC has today updated to 2.7.1, I'm running Calibre 8.3 & DRM removal 10.0.9. I tried today to use the new Kindle for PC to download a book, then open it in Calibre & try to convert it to MOBI. But now I'm getting a "Can't do this because DRM" message. Reading through the thread, I think I should be trying to download the KFX.zip on to my Kindle then lifting the KFX file off the Kindle into Calibre—is that right? I've tried copying the KFX.zip file straight from my PC to my Kindle Documents folder, then opening the Kindle Documents folder's AZW file in Calibre but that doesn't allow me to convert it to MOBI either. Is my only option to turn off my Kindle's airplane mode (I've got updates blocked) and sync to Amazon? I so don't want to do this—I worry that Amazon will screw up my carefully created collections on my Kindle (there are 50 "ghost" collections listed under my Digital Content online which Amazon can't explain or delete). |

You are correct. I should have tested all of the links and said most.

For any books published BEFORE April 23, 2025, you can use an older version of K4PC still. The version to use is 2.4.0 (70904). Books downloaded with that version can still be dedrmed using Calibre + nodrm 10.0.9 + KFX Input. For books published ON/AFTER April 23, 2025, K4PC no longer works. They require a newer version of K4PC which cannot be dedrmed. This means your only option is to have the books sent over wifi to your kindle and then add the books to your calibre library directly from your kindle. Look at the first post in this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=361503 And oops...apparently there is still some success with some version of kindle for android...but I personally don't know anything about that. |

I started reading this thread but then discovered there is 66 pages!
I'm in the UK so I don't know if things are different depending which country you live in. My kindle is quite a few years old now but I've not connected it to the internet for most of those years. All my books are in Calibre and I transfer any books to my kindle via usb. Every so often a complete series boxset becomes available free on Amazon which I used to download onto my Windows laptop using the 'download and transfer' option, I would then move it into Calibre then transfer it to my kindle via usb. Now that this option is not available, is there a way of getting round this? I just came across another boxset which is free so have downloaded it and there is two options to send it to: Kindle for PC or My kindle I don't have Kindle for PC on my laptop, but if I install it, is it possible to transfer any downloaded books to my kindle via usb from it? |

The Kindle for PC approach will only work for books published on or before April 22, 2025 and using K4PC 2.4.0 (70904) or earlier. You can add the books to calibre from your Kindle ereader but that will require having your Kindle online to download the books.

Sadly, Amazon has stated earlier K4A versions will not be able to download books published on May 26, 2025 or later. K4A v9 uses the newer KFX DRM that is currently not removable.

I know I can just connect my kindle to wifi and download the books directly to my kindle, which will mean getting the latest firmware updates, and there will be lots of them, but I'm wondering if it will be worth the hassle as my kindle has been working perfectly for years and updating might mess something up.

You cannot load your purchased books from the Kindle for PC directly to your eink Kindle. The DRM must be removed first, as the app and the Kindle use different DRM. Last edited by Sirtel; 05-06-2025 at 03:02 PM. |

I just got this:
Dear Customer, We are reaching out to ask you to update the Kindle app on your Android device to the latest available version (Android OS v9.0+). Starting May 26, 2025 Kindle for Android app versions released prior to March 2022 (v8.51 or earlier) will no longer support Kindle content downloads. This update will ensure you get the most out of the Kindle experience and that the app operates as intended. Please follow the steps below to get the latest version of the free Kindle app. How to Update: 1. Open the Settings app on your device. Scroll down and tap System or About Phone/Tablet (this might vary depending on your device). 2. Tap Software Update or System Updates. Tap Check for Updates. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it. 3. Once you upgrade your device to Android OS v.9.0+, open the app store on your Android device. Search for the Kindle app. Tap Update to install the latest version. If you are unable to update your app, you can continue reading previously downloaded content, as well as continue to use Kindle for Web (https://read.amazon.com/), a supported Kindle E-reader, or the free Kindle app on iOS, Mac or PC to download and read Kindle content. If you have any questions or require assistance, please visit http://www.amazon.com/kindlesupport. Thank you for being a Kindle customer. Sincerely, The Kindle Team Please note: This e-mail was sent from a notification-only address that cannot accept incoming e-mail. Please do not reply to this message. I have an old flip phone, that's probably the one they're complaining about- but it's probably to prevent downloading and decryption?? |

I would agree that this is about preventing download and decrypt and nothing to do with any "improvements". |
