				Pages left in chapter

Something I wish the stock Kindle had when reading a book was a the ability to know how many pages left or what page in number in how pages of a chapter you are on. I love this part of the standard Kobo reader. I hate to stop reading a chapter mid-way through so know how many pages there are helps me to know whether I should start the next one or not.

PS-I know KOReader on jailbroken Kindle does this but my colorsoft is beyond the firmware version that this is an option. |

I find the % is best. Pages are meaningless except on paper, and there % would be handy. The paper books don't list how far away the end of the chapter is.

Also chapters can be one paragraph or 100 pages. They can vary in a book or be similar length. |

Regardless of which representation is “best”, what’s annoying is that there really isn’t any valid reason for this option not to be present on Kindles. Computing the number of pages left for a given layout and font is trivial; it might have been considered computationally intensive a decade ago but it’s certainly no longer the case, as evidenced by the fact that KOReader has no problem doing this on the same hardware. |

Yes, I have both and have my likes/dislikes for both lol. Neither one is the perfect device for me unfortunately. I typically read a novel on one and then whatever else I am reading (non-fiction type of thing) I read on the other.

What does work well is ADE page numbers because they are consistent and don't rely on display settings such as font, font-size, line height, etc. |

Useless for you. Not for me, because I use my customized page count to display the general length of the book, and it's displayed both in the subtitle field and in book details. So I don't need any page numbers to be displayed while reading, and I don't need or want ADE page numbers at all.

With kobo it is screen pages. So if on page 1 of 12 then you make font bigger it will go up, for example page 1 of 18

Although I use the one screen one page system (whenever the reading programme allows me to do so), I think that either the Adobe pagination in Kobo (or other brands) or the remaining reading time in Kindle gives you a rough idea of how much of the chapter you have left. It's not a precise calculation, but more than enough to guide you. It's not an issue that worries me too much.

For me, I like to use time left (usually in book, but sometimes in chapter) I know that some people say that it's not accurate, but it usually is for me. The only time it gets confused is if I jump backwards or forwards to search for something in the book...although unless I'm very close to the end of the book when I do my search it will fix itself after a chapter or so.

My personal preference is % followed by pages. I find that time left either in book or chapter is just too inaccurate. Even after the number of pages I've read on any of my ereaders (Kindle or Kobo), the firmware does not seem happy with my reading speed. Statistics like you have read 62% of the book in 48 minutes and have 4 hours left are pretty risible.
