Sage Battery dies suddenly - fixable?

I'm having this exact issue. I also noticed it hasn't been syncing book progress when it has in the past. I purchased this Sage in March of 2023 and find it strange to have these sudden battery problems when I hadn't noticed losing battery life previously. I use this device every day.

There are some charging habits which wear out the battery fairly quickly. For example, leaving the device on the charger overnight.

I find heat shrink to be a lot more reliable than electrical tape which has a bad habit of unwinding when the temperature changes as when your ereader gets a bit warm while charging. Once I've heat shrunk the first two bits of tubing over the solder joints and then the larger piece covering both, it's not going anywheres.

I don't do that and generally don't let the battery drain completely. I'm not saying that it isn't possible that the battery is shot after two years use, but it is suspicious to me.

I'm starting to wonder if it is related to recent Calibre updates and the changes with Kobo. It's the only thing I can think of that is different with my usage of the Sage. I have no idea if that is a possibility but it coincides with the sudden onset of the battery issue.

I don't think so. I and others here have been using calibre 8.xx with our Sages and have not seen this.

What the Sage can't take well are high levels of frontlight. If you're the type who usually keeps their light fairly high up, it's entirely possible to wear the battery out with only a few years.

Have you tried turning WiFi off and just enabling it when needed? I find on my KLC thats its made a large difference; almost as if post sync sonething hangs.

Yes, if you're seeing sudden battery drops, it could be that your Sage has gotten stuck syncing, and Wi-Fi is draining the battery.

Interesting, thanks. I ran mine at around 30 since getting it in November 21, though I see it's currently at 48, higher than I used to have it

I keep mine at 9-11 (it's about as old as yours and so far no unusual draining). When I want more light, I use my Libra. I've done it this way since I got them, because I noticed the Sage draining much faster when the light was high and as its battery was poor to begin with, I didn't want to wear it out.

Looks like that ship has sailed for me Also, I remember one of your other comments about Sage battery life mentioning the impact of rapid 'page turns' and this I've definitely noticed. A lot of my reading is very light and I read it fast, so that's probably not helped.

Possibly. I'm a pretty slow reader, because I'm easily distracted and keep interrupting my reading with various other things.

Also I never sync, wifi is always off. You probably sync in KOReader?

I never used to sync much, wifi was almost always off. Since I could read for hours without any problem, there was little need to change devices, so little need to sync. I started syncing more often in the last 6-9 months as I noticed declining battery life, so that's probably a bit of a feedback loop, I guess
