[Conversion Plugin] KFX Input

I have an issue, but I'm not sure if it's from the plugin.

My kindle has been offline since a year.

I've been converting epub to kfx for a long time, but since the last update of the plugin, now all the new kfx's appear in my kindle as ''document'' and not as books.

Is there something that I can do for this?

That was by design in the KFX Output plugin (nothing to do with the KFX Input plugin). It prevents the issue where going online has Kindle deleting ebooks that use the EBOK cdetype and an valid ASIN for a book that Amazon says you do not have access to. You can change that in the conversion output settings for the KFX Output plugin.

Conversion to KFX format is handled by the KFX Output plugin. There was a change in the most recent release of KFX Output to produce documents instead of books by default since that allows cover thumbnails to appear in the library view of the latest generation Kindles.

To revert to the original behavior select the option "Create book (EBOK) instead of personal document (PDOC)" in the KFX Output tab of the conversion dialog.

Having problems. Maybe someone can help?

So I've followed all the steps and am unable to manage to get books off the Scribe and into Calibre. MacOS (Silicon) doesn't recognize the Kindle as device/storage anymore, so Send-To-Kindle/USB File Manager has to be used. I cannot then drag out USB File Manager but can drag it to the Desktop. From there dragging to Calibre imports an encrypted file (KFX-zip). I have the correct dedrm and KFX input installed. Anyone willing to point me in the right direction?

I don't believe this is an issue with a specific file or the drm on said file. I think this is across the board for me. I must be doing something wrong but can't imagine what.

Can you see the books in the device view in Calibre? If so, try right-clicking adding the books from there directly.

Never mind. Eventually it did detect the Scribe and yes, adding directly from Calibre worked.

you need to extract them once and install the zip you get there. this goes for all versions youve tried

I always convert KFX files to EPUB (or another format) using the 'KFX Input' plugin when I receive them. Should I keep the original KFX file alongside the converted EPUB, as the 'KFX Input' plugin might be improved in the future?

That is up to you to decide.

Personally, I keep the original formats for all books I import into calibre as a backup. Many others don't bother with that.

I do not foresee any significant improvements to the conversion ability of this plugin but there is a chance that there may be bugs that come to light and are fixed in the future.

Would it be possible to add a 'Cancel' button to the From KFX convert progress window?

Sometimes I want to cancel a large comic conversion, but I have to wait for it to complete.

That might be doable without too much trouble. I will look into it.

If not, I plan to implement the ability to do conversion via a background job and that will allow the ability to perform other actions while conversion occurs, such as canceling. But it will be awhile before I have time to work on that.


Added: The From KFX progress dialog will have a cancel button in the next release of this plugin.

When I add books from my PW2, the KFX input plugin also imports the description. However, when adding from K4PC, I click and drag which means the description does NOT get added. Should I be using Calibre's Add Books instead? Or can the plugin be modified to also import the description on click and drag?

I'm asking instead of trying because I don't have any books to import at this time, but I want to know for the future.

Kindle books in KFX format do not contain a description field and the KFX Input plugin has nothing to do with that metadata.

I cannot explain how you are seeing a description on import of books from your PW2. Perhaps you already had an entry in your calibre library for that book with the description before importing from your Kindle or something else in your calibre setup is providing it.
