Tirsales - I hope you find a tutor who will accept your diploma thesis.
Patricia - still keeping my fingers crossed for a positive outcome for you.

As for banning various types of guns/knives, and games such as paintball and laser-tag, ... politicians seem to like going for the "quick win" in the face of public outcry by the "moral majority" (who fellow Brits might know as "outraged of Tunbridge Wells" ).

I was going to write more, but it just gets me wound up.

What did she say? Is she condoning their laziness or making excuses for it?

What is THEIR excuse?

How frustrating!

lady blue, she keeps telling me that she will start monitoring their work performance and take actions accordingly. she willingly and candidly admits that she knows relatively nothing about telecommunications, she is a good manager, but these guys are getting away with murder. I've managed at this level before and she is tying my hands.

edit: I just picked a copy of my job description and will now research theirs. we are having a meeting this afternoon and I want to be fully armed...errrr prepared.

I wonder how she can start monitoring their work performance when it seems they don't do any? I wonder when this monitoring will begin and how long it will take to judge any kind of performance? Sounds like a lot of hot air.

whoo boy... I have a feeling the showdown at the OK Corral is forming up here... I just sent this letter to my supervisor;

***
I have a feeling I am about to go into the Lion's Den. Dxxxxx and Lxxxx
haven't done a THING today. They've been working on "paperwork" all day
long.

I had opened a work order for a customer in building 6xx, the customer on
the phone was very confused and did not know what building he was in. when
I told him he needed a building number he said, oh I think it is 6xx. This
morning I saw it in the hold bin, and asked what it was on hold for. Lxx
told me that it was for the library and he didn't think "that chinaman" (his words)
worked in the library. I told him I had not realized that it was the
library and asked if they had a POC for the Axxxx school. All they came up
with was Sxxxxxx Kxx who I emailed and cc'd you asking for his assistance.
I just went out to the front to see if there were any more closed work
orders and saw yet another print out of that work order on Lxxx's desk. I
asked why he had it as I thought I had taken it to my desk and knew I had
contacted Mr. Kxx. He said it was his copy and I was not to touch it. He
also had an entire stack of work orders underneath it.

Dxxxxx and Lxxx have both been extremely critical of my lack of knowledge of
the facility and the buildings. I have attempted to point out to both of
them that I haven't been here but a little over a month and they have both
worked here for a very long time. I have a feeling that this meeting is
going to be a bloodbath, that the two of them have cooked up something
between them. I would like for Mxxxx Exxxx to be there. If she is not, and
this meeting turns controversial, I will leave immediately and go to the
CPO. I have a very very bad feeling here Dxxxxxxxxxx.

****
Mxxxx Exxxxx is our deputy director. she's pretty squared away.

I am really really REALLY angry and upset with these guys!

Krisk, if I can offer some advice:

I do get involved with grievance proceedings and 'clear the air' type meetings on a regular basis as part of my job (from the management side). In my experience, the people who come across the best in these are those who argue their case as objectively as possible. I'm worried that you obviously care so much about doing a good job that you will come across as irrational and paranoid if you are not careful to try to keep that in check.

I hope this doesn't appear patronising as I have no idea of your level of experience etc...please take this advice in the spirit it is offered - wishing you all the best in your meeting!

to start, I have 30 years in the business. unfortunately I am very underemployed, but had to take this position to get back into Civil Service. I have printed out everyone's job description (official job description). I plan to be pretty quiet and respond to questions only when necessary. I will not engage in argument with either of them.

I also have a purloined valium.

Looks like my 'advice' was totally unnecessary and I'm glad to hear it.

I knew I'd forgotten something as well, valium, of course

no Bilbo, I appreciate it, and I DO tend to be fairly passionate. I need to keep those passions under wraps! We keep having meetings over and over again and it does not seem to get any better. this clown is simply extremely negative towards me. if I wewren't 1000 miles from home I would consider quitting and hoping a better job came along and reapplying.

the car isn't far Dixie, I'll be ok. besides! I'm head bitch! lol!
