I don't know if this is possible but would it feasable to create a plugin to sync with libraries which offer ebook loans? I assume that there is some kind of common way of doing it because apps like borrowbox and libby exist

Thanks

I'm quite desperately searching for some way to just append tags and values like Titles, Authors etc into one book entry while merging 2+ entries, instead of deleting the other entries. Is there a way to do that already?

Since KOReader can sync with Calibre if Calibre was able to sync with online book store libraries this would allow Kindles and other ereaders to be interoperable with many ebook retailers. This could be used in conjunction with Calibre plug ins that remove DRM to make things easier. I think the way this could be achieved is plugin which:

1. Sync to Google Play Books (which also allows you to upload books which are DRM free from other sources).
2. Kobo store
3. eBooks.com
4. iBooks

I'm sure there are others but these seem to be the most popular ones
There is no need for this. You can use the DeACSM plugin along with the DeDRM plugin to download your ePub to calibre and remove the DRM at the same time. DeACSM would download the ePub using the ACSM file and DeDRM would remove the DRM all in one go.

As for Apple, forget trying to remove the DRM. It cannot be done. But the other three yes the DRM can be removed.

I wish there was a common way, but no the libraries all have their own way of working.

It is hard to know exactly what you want or mean by syncing but check out two existing plugins :

Overdrive link see https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=187919

This supports more than just overdrive/libby (about 14 sources, but not borrowbox) but is more about searching those sources than syncing with your account.

OverDrive/Libby see https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=354816

This only deals with overdrive/libby. It requires you to connect your account and will show you the books you have on loan and on hold and it allows you return them and also to search for other books and borrow them or place them on hold.

The two plugins are complementarily and I use both.

Apologies if I have missed any others.

Disclaimer, overdrive/libby was originally written by ping/modified (who did more than 99% of the work), but is now maintained by me.

How about a plugin that would migrate the settings from KoboTouchExtended to KoboTouch for calibre 8 and later?

I wonder if it could be possible to have the "Year in book" and "Reading stats" functionalities such as the ones displayed on the Goodreads website, meaning showing, for a set period of time, such as the past 12 months, these stats for read books:
- number of pages read
- number of books
- shortest & longest book
- average book length in pages
- most & least "shelved"
- highest rated
- first and last review of the year
- a neat "wall" display of the covers of all the books marked as read the previews year
- publication years
- books & pages over time

I haven't seen such suggestion for a plugin and after failing to understand how to implement it myself here i am.

Thanks.

For a single use plugin I think it's a waste.

All the old plugin settings are in the calibre config directory in the file device_drivers_KOBOTOUCHEXTENDED.py.json

I think there is another real reason for not creating this plugin: the person who needs it isn't going to know that they need it.

The Calibre installer Knows where the Config folder is (update existing mode)
All it needs to do is check for that Kobo file (only used for a Kobo user )
Either pop a advise message or simply (download and) run the PI as part of the upgrade.
There are A LOT of Calibre w/Kobo users.

I think the real issue was that this was not pointed out to Kovid during the pre-release period of the new Kobo support. If it had been then a lot of the issues people have encountered would have been avoided (assuming that he was willing to create a fix).

Included in calibre installer, done automatically, yes. A plugin the user has to download, I don't see it. In any case, there is another "small detail" that hardly anybody remember, and that it's more difficult to solve (not for calibre but for an user): metadata plugboard. The only place where you can see it after upgrading to calibre 8 is in the database with sqlitedb or something like that.

Problem is: main part of the users are able to solve them manually or are aware of the issue. This plugin is necessary for somebody who has not been part of it, and I think most of us who have been in the pre-release don't have the mind of a non-advanced user (who would need the plugin). That's my opinion and this time I recognize I've been out of that pre-release as it tinkers with the one of the most important parts for me: books in the ereader.

Try the Reading Goal plugin. It has some of this features and others not metioned (like graphs).
